Choosing the right hostel is SO important

Choosing the right hostel is SO important

It's hard to always know which hostel is the right one for you until you've stayed there. I'm in Mendoza at the moment in a family run hostel near the bus station, maybe 5 mins drive from the town center. This place is VACANT. I mean there are 9 beds in my room and it was just me last night and one other dude. But no chics, no parties, I don't even know what to do today, it's like a ghost town. However, I haven't left because there are some great things, clean bathrooms with doors you can close and lock. Nothing irks me more than those public type hostel bathrooms where you're in the shower and some guy comes in and is taking a shit at the same time, while you're covering your nose. Overall cleanliness of the hostel as I don't want to be eaten alive by bed bugs. Fast, reliable wifi which I need to plan head, use skype, keep in touch and post photos to facebook. Friendly staff that makes me feel welcome, and quiet when it's time to sleep without a million people banging the door in and out. So it's been very comfortable here, almost like a guesthouse. But at the same time, I'm bored as hell and want to have some fun and I won't find any hostel mates to go out and party with. So I guess I've sacrificed fun for comfort in Mendoza.

Anyway, just ranting for a minute before I head out and look for something interesting to see or do.

I want to have fun in Buenos Aires so I need to get my hostel selection right and hopefully find a fun crowd of peeps.

Check out couch surfing (www.couchsurfing.com) to meet up with people (locals and other travelers).

Might do that tomorrow. I'm kinda burned out on the wine thing. Did enough of that in Chile. Just walked around town today. Not a whole lot of "must see" things here, but the central part of town is pretty lively in the evening. I'm ready to leave however. If I can't find a sleeper cama to Buenos Aires tonight, then I'm definitely outta here tomorrow.

Choosing a hostel is usually hit or miss. I would recommend Tango Hostel in Cordoba (you going there?). Can't speak for B.A. as I've stayed in an apartment there.

Nah, won't be going to Cordoba on this trip. Don't have the time.

Yeah stayed at tango too.

I used to like the "party hostels" but now i seek the small hostels. Forces me to go out to meet people instead of socializing with gringos
