Ah, so that's Jim DeRogatis. Heh, if I was that type of person, knowing just how pathetic a man he is would settle an old score for me that - admittedly - I've never bothered to lose much sleep about.

I do remember Steve Albini's summation of him: "A useless fuck I should ignore." (Apparently, he did, and never spoke to him again).

I vaguely-remember 90's hype machine failure Liz Phair ripping into DeRogatis during the early 2000's for her refusal to play the 'dirty girl with a guitar singing about sex role' he'd prescribed for her in the 90's after her ripped her a new one for 'selling out'. It was very "I made you!" on his part, when, well, she was always mediocre as hell, but she had a vagina and sounded feminist enough, so it was decided that she was going to be famous. The problem was, no-one really bought what she was selling.

Still, it's weird to think someone a major third wave feminist described as a 'sexist pig' is writing for Buzzfeed.

The majority of music critics I ever met were sad Gamma loser types who were under the delusion that they were the real stars. Every so often, an artist takes a critic's opinion too seriously, and writes a song to attack them*. Phair did one for DeRogatis, and it amuses me to think of himself being important enough in the rock canon to have a song written about him, then playing it to hear that it's one of the worst songs I've ever heard, even for Phair.

----

* As a footnote, I stumbled across an song I wrote in the 90's the other day. One of my exes used to perform a song with her band that everyone in the community knew was obviously about me. I wasn't annoyed by this - more disappointed her song wasn't better - but after a few weeks of gossip going around, I wrote my own song in response, thinking the drama might generate market interest.

I didn't do the Alpha thing of "I've forgotten you already / I've moved on / Look at my new girl / new girls".

I didn't do the Gamma thing of "How could you hurt me so when I loved you more than any man possibly could / you'll never understand the grand depths of my poetic soul / look at just what you threw away / but i have pity for you so I'll be here when you realise i was your one true love and come crawling back."

I did the Sigma thing: "Girl, who do you think you're kidding? You knew exactly what I was, and sucked my dick regardless."

Unfortunately, my bandmates at the time talked me out of it, because it really was just Agreeing & Amplifying with her new villainous construct of me: "Everyone will think you're a Total Cunt." I wasn't worried, but the realities of band dymanics being what they are, I let it go. More power to her.

Reading it now, despite the very high-falutin' language, (which amped up the cruelty), I think it's a far more honest song about relationships than most.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the rumor that R. Kelly was actually married to Aaliyah when she was 15. Aaliyah's debut album was called Age Ain't Nothing But a Number. She had been working with him since she was 12, and the album was released when she was 15.

It was a case of mentor-mentee game. This happens in a lot in creative professions--music, acting, art, etc. It also happened with Celine Dion and the man who became her husband.

A conspiracy-minded friend of mine actually believes that Aaliyah was murdered because she refused to play the Hollywood game. I actually kind of believe it. It's also very telling that Aaliyah has also basically disappeared from the radio. How often do you ever hear her songs?

I'm pretty sure R. Kelly marrying Aaliyah was more than a rumor. Someone found and actual marriage license.

# 1 rule when a celebrity.

Even if Bill Clinton is alleged to have raped 5-year-old girls at Jeffrey Epstein's private island, NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER, ever find yourself alone with anyone under 18 & any female of any age. Period.

Even if Buzzfeed posts images of "breastfeeding mothers" posing fully naked with their sons as a form of "breastfeeding", NEVER EVER ENCOURAGE any chick under 18 to wear cheerleader uniform as it can be interpreted as "child p0rnography".

I'm just thinking with how clearly obsessed and envious this dude is with Robert's sex life, it seems he may get off to seeing attractive alpha black men smashing sexy petite things that he wouldn't even have to privilege to sniff the assholes of.

Bill Cosby's major crime was his "poundcake" speech to the NAACP. Back in 2004, he told African Americans that they should stop spending money on expensive shoes and start spending it on stuff like Hooked on Phonics. He told them that they should learn to read and to speak like civilized human beings. It went against the entire narrative that "it's all the white man's fault." He also had the audacity to say that kids need both mothers and fathers.

I suspect a lot of these writers become obsessed with rock and music stars because they want to have the life that the stars have. It's largely because these men have no lives of their own.

There was another guy that we are probably all familiar with who was also obsessed with the lives of rock stars. He even wrote a book about Motley Crue, whose sexcapades are/were the stuff of legend. I am talking, of course, about Neil Strauss.

Interesting about him monitoring their eating/exercise habits - another guy Keith Raniere did the same and they also branded him a cult. But he's grooming the girls for music careers, they won't get a record deal being fat and sloppy.

And any artistic field requires some level of reclusiveness, so him controlling their cell phone usage/cutting off family does make sense.

^ Only got about 1 minute into that before it got too awkward for me to watch. I thought R. Kelly was smoother than that. I mean I get he doesn't want to be roasted or baited into shitty questions, but simply asking "Your lyrics have a lot to do with sex, would you say you have a healthy relationship with sex?" isn't a negative question or baiting him into anything.

It is implying he doesn't have a healthy relation with sex.

Bill Burr did a bit on this, about how these talking heads have no idea what it's like to be tempted on the level of a Tiger Woods or an Arnie. R Kelly was ridiculously successful and had a young Aaliyah hanging on to his every word. She was 15, would she magically become a different person, a consenting adult, the day she becomes 16? It could have been the following week, and if it was it would suddenly become legal in the UK and much of Europe. I understand the laws, but there has to be nuance. I saw people (fat older women) calling him a paedophile on twitter. These people know full well what paedophilia is, and they know it isn't this, but it's a good word to sling at your ideological foes. Has R Kelly done some really morally objectionable things? Probably, but as Burr points out... who am I to imagine what I would or wouldn't do if I was a super-famous songwriter and a young starlet walks into the studio to learn from me.

Aaliyah lasted on the radio wayyyy longer than typical artists, I still hear her occasionally. If she wasnt down with the program she wouldnt have been fucking R Kelly or gotten the Queen of the Damned role.

I think that conspiracy is a bit too far out.

1. Girls like older men
2. Girls like successful men
3. Girls like bad boys

R Kelly was and is all of that. I stated in another thread that MANY people in Chicago knew about this.

However it's hard to take up for R Kelly without sounding like a pedophile.

Journalist/commentator Toure, who appeared on R. Kelly's takedown documentary has himself been accused of sexual harassment for asking talking sexual with a makeup artist:

Quote:Quote:

According to Essence, a make-up artist, who goes by the name “Dani,” left a comment on the show’s Instagram post alleging Touré sexually harassed her when they worked together.

“He couldn’t stop asking me to do anal, how I looked naked, if I had sex over the weekend, what it would be like to f–k me,” she wrote.

Dani said she eventually quit, adding that she reported Touré to human resources once she left. She said he was subsequently fired.

In an interview with Essence, Dani said she decided to go public after seeing Touré on Surviving R. Kelly and doing interviews about the docuseries.

“When I saw him going around as R. Kelly’s docuseries spokesman to different radio stations, the lies had to stop. I’ve worked with Mouse Jones before and wanted him to know the truth,” she said.

Touré has since responded to the Dani’s claims with the following statement to Essence: “On the show, our team, including myself, engaged in edgy, crass banter, that at the time I did not think was offensive for our tight-knit group. I am sorry for my language and for making her feel uncomfortable in any way. As a lead on the show, I should have refrained from this behavior. I have learned and grown from this experience.”

Because of this, he has lost out on an interview with Terry Crews, who was a victim himself when an agent grabbed his ass. The victim Olympics is starting to get confusing.

I have a sneaking suspicion that being kicked out of the harem for hotter/younger/tighter women was the real problem.

Here are his "slaves" and "prisoners" cheering for him at a public concert, where they could easily have run away, yet oddly chose to endure more of his "abuse":

YouTube comment sums it up nicely:
