It took me maybe 9 months. You have to pick the state you want to work in then go to their website to see if the skills you have are on the shortage list. After that you lodge an app where you send in a resume and other details. If they think you can get a job you will have to do other things like have your skills assessed, take a language exam, and so on and so forth. Once the state approves sponsorship your via will be fast tracked.

So after that you can only go work for THAT state?

Give me an example of where you did the APP for free? What you did.. and then I'll try that and search on my own later.

The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.

Is your friend FIFO? The actual towns are a catastrophy, avoid them. Places like Port Hedland where a 30 year old, 3x1 house in a harsh environment (prone to cyclones, 40 degree+ days and high humidity) just renting a bedroom room can cost you $2,500 per month. Unless your employer pays for them, NEVER go there.

HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK. $2500 a month would get you a luxury furnished two bedroom in the middle of Melbourne city centre. Probably with a car space too. You could get a 3 bedroom for that much in a wealthy super- inner suburb bordering the city like South Yarra.

Port Hedland.

2 br apt - $1,600 per week... $6,400 per month, or $3,200 for the room

http://www.realestate.com.au/property-ho...-406627426

Cheapest is probably this piece of shit - $1,400 per week/ $5,600 per month for a common wall 3br.

http://www.realestate.com.au/property-ho...-406736116

Something resembling a fmaily home - $3,000 per week/ $12,000 per month for this 4br with a pool

So no, I'm not making it up.

Typically it will be only for that employer.

What it sounds like being described here is jobs for government agencies that are hard to fill.

Things like teachers, nurses, infrastructure workers in remote areas (civil engineers, telecom workers) etc.

So you'll tend to be sponsored by state government agencies under a 457 visa, for the sole purpose of fulfilling this role. hey are the emplyer sponsoring you, thus you have to do what they say, it is a form of indenture.

The local work can range from 2 to 4 years in such a location, after which you can obtain permanent residency status in Australia.

A pretty much picture perfect example can be found here;

http://www.sbs.com.au/insight/episode/in...transcript

In the transcript, start reading from the name of RAM UPADHYAYA, a 457 visa holder from Nepal, working as a Town Planner.

Heheh, read the comment from Jenny Brockie Abvoe it...

"Insight is talking about the migrant boom with the government saying we will need an extra 2.5 million skilled positions in the next four years. Now, Ram, I wanted to talk to you because you are an engineer, you came here from Nepal a year ago. Where did you want to go?"

In my case I can work for anyone as long as I live in Victoria. Anywhere in Victoria. Depending on which app you choose sometimes you get regional approval only.

They have a regional list and a statewide list. The only difference between normal Permanent Res app is the visa was fast tracked, and I have to live in Victoria State because they sponsored me.

Don't live in regional Victoria dude. Trust me. Regional Australia is it's own class of shitty. So is Adelaide and Canberra. Maybe Brisbane too. This is a Game forum, and game wise you DO NOT want to be living in Victoria outside of Melbourne.

Thanks buddy. This is like a hidden thing. I signed up on the online thing. Just have to figure out which of those Visa categories I fall into and go forward.
Question: What OTHER expenses did you have to make before this whole thing got state sponsored?
Example: Did you have to pay some Organization / Company to do a Skills Assessment of your work profile?

That means you CAN work in Melbourne.
Some Qs here:

The Govt Sponsored applications.. Can you do them:
- State only or National as well? (Gives you freedom between Melbourne & Sydney if you get National Auth.. But I am sure the State oriented ones get faster response?)
- One state only? More states? (Apply to both states: Mel & Syd.. See who comes back sooner? Or can you get & accept BOTH responses)
Thoughts on this?

So the Victoria state thing got it done FASTER because it was not a National Level WAITING LIST?
How long did your thing take from application submission to approval?

Ouch! That bad outside the 2 cities. I heard Gold Coast was pretty nice place to be? Nice warmer weather, surf, chicks etc?

You misread what I said.

Cities decent for game: Sydney, Melbourne, Perth & Gold Coast.

Cities bad for game: Adelaide, Canberra. Maybe Brisbane.

Also bad for game: EVERYWHERE ELSE

Footnote: Their are summer beach towns etc which might be good in Summer, but outside of Summer will be shitty.

1 state at a time. Dont think there is national sponsorship, just regular visa process which could take up to 2 years. My visa took 3 months once I got state sponsorship approval. Moving is going to cost you serious coin, skills assessment, visa fees, time, police reports, and energy .....

^^ Yeah Gold Coast is a different city about an hour from Brisbane on the coast. Brisbane is actually a little bit inland and doesn't have any beaches.

Yup. Brisbane is a lot more populous as well. Like 2 million versus 500,000. I don't hear very good things game wise from Brisbane. But Gold Coast is Australia's Miami Beach of sorts. Lots of nightclubs, highrises, beaches and amusement parks.

Awesome, that was fast. I will apply online.
But did you have to spend any $$$ before it got approved?

How much did you have to spend in all? total? Ball park.. ? Maybe a little data breakdown.. ?
- X $
- Y$
___
Total.

They will say hey we like you. Get this (English Exam $150), Skills Assessed ($200), Transcripts ($50), and then approve it. First your resume goes to a jobs board, and if they think you will get a job it goes to the next step. You also need to show you can support yourself as well, and maybe know some cats. I knew 3 people (2 of which I didnt end of up seeing lol), and told em I had $50k +. I came at the worst time and have had to use my savings due to the job situation, so be sure you have some in demand skills ....

Thanks ea. I am targeting some 150k+ jobs. I've had 6 figures back in the US & even employers who were good to get me a GC. I've let funds run out due to some other issues & family stuff.

I've had bunch of matching positions on SEEK au. But issue was work visa/ authorization.

I think that 150 + 200 is not that bad of an investment. I've known people applying through the other normal SKills program where they put in close to 2000 AuD taking 1.5/3 years waiting and then you GO and then start job hunt. Too much wait.

I appreciate your inputs man. Im gonna do the Victoria thing online - Its FREE [Image: smile.gif]

Interesting Piece on the mining industry and the toll it takes on the fly in fly out workers.
Grim if you're a family man, good time if you're young and looking for adventure...hard work but lucrative

Mid 20's I would have jumped at it to swell the bank balance ...not now.
