Air Asia should be your best bet. Do you need a one way or return? Keep in mind if you come into Thailand on a one way ticket and you do not have an ongoing ticket leaving the country, you may or may not be allowed to get into the country. Be warned.... Also, Air Asia is like the equivalent of Ryan Air in Europe, that is no service, no luggage allowance at all, no snack/drinks/food, nothing. It's like taking the bus on the air. In other words it's like flying with a US carrier... If you can, I'd strongly suggest you to "splurge" a little and pay about $100-$150 and get a ticket on Thai International Airways and you'll know what it means to fly with one of the top 5 airlines in the world in terms of service. Flew with them on my back from BKK to HKG and it was among the best flying experiences I've ever had. Just top notch.

Why is Thailand making it so difficult to visit their country, now for a extended stay visa you require a official hotel reservation as well.

I really did not want a roundtrip since the majority of my trip is going to be split in half between Thailand & PI with no telling on when i'm going from one to the other.

My original plan was NYC -> HK -> Macau to play some poker for a few days -> HK -> BKK -> PI -> HK ->NYC

Can I just get a ticket to BKK and a cheap air cebu ticket to the PI spread apart 3 months? think this will count as a valid RT ticket? or it has to be back to your original destination.

Where did you hear that? Just a couple of months ago, I got a one way into Bangkok via AirAsia. I didn't have a flight ticket out of there when I landed or anything. Got a Visa on arrival no problem. I booked a ticket out of there a week into my stay in BKK.
