When in doubt, play the "Mental Illness" card:

"Jackson cited a psychological report saying McFarland has Bipolar Related Disorder and may sometimes have “delusional beliefs of having special and unique talents that will lead to fame and fortune.”"

OR....

Cocaine Related Disorder?

Fyre Festival Promoter Billy McFarland Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison

The promoter of a botched, highly publicized music festival in the Bahamas has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Billy McFarland was sentenced on Thursday in Manhattan federal court.

McFarland has twice pleaded guilty to charges. First, he admitted earlier this year he defrauded investors in the 2017 Fyre Festival. Then, weeks later, he pleaded guilty to charges in a ticket selling scam.

Prosecutors had sought over 15 years in prison.

His lawyer had urged leniency, saying McFarland suffers from mental illness that includes delusional beliefs that his talents will lead to “fame and fortune.”

6 years isn't bad. He will be out in 3 or less in a minimum safety New York facility.

The mental delusion angle was a good defense and easy to do since he was high on coke all the time anyway - also obviously too dumb. It would be different if he had wired 20 mio. $ to Argentina and was leading his defense via Skype laughing.

Update on the story:

That pic is also hilariously fitting:

He is in jail and serving a 6 year prison sentence, but get this:

Quote:Quote:

Back in October, the 26-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison by a federal judge in Manhattan for defrauding investors and ticket holders for Fyre Festival as well as selling $100,000 of fake tickets to exclusive events like the Met Gala and Grammys after the Fyre Festival failure. McFarland did actually end up going to prison (despite, as the Netflix doc shows, saying he’d never go). Naturally, he's not loving the experience and has to take "a shower in the sink" according to letters to his girlfriend (model Anastasia Eremenko) reads aloud in Fyre Fraud (the letter also includes drawings and "Billy loves Anastasia," she says).

So right after the Fyre Festival he started another con-company selling even more exclisive fake concert tickets! That guy is indeed the incurable sociopath.

Quote:Quote:

But the Red Pill essence is valid - his model girlfriend did not dump him - female nature is attracted to psychopaths and sociopaths.

But while he's locked up, he not staying silent. In November 2018, one month into his sentence, McFarland released a post-Fyre festival statement from jail, vowing to make things right by becoming a better person while serving his time.
“I am incredibly sorry for my collective actions and will right the wrongs I have delivered to my family, friends, partners, associates and, you, the general public,” he said in the statement released to People. “I’ve always sought — and dreamed — to accomplish incredible things by pushing the envelope to deliver for a common good, but I made many wrong and immature decisions along the way and I caused agony. As a result, I’ve lived every day in prison with pain, and I will continue to do so until I am able to make up for some of this harm through work and actions that society finds respectable.”

Dude - you fucking started another con after your biggest con blew up! You are no Michael Milken who at best did what all the other junk-bond traders did. He also contributed to prison reform while being there and wasn't such a moron like you.

I knew pathological liars and they are frankly mentally sick. However they can be very convincing if you are in their sphere. But sooner or later their luck runs out - the one I knew died in a self-inflicted car-crash since he did many high-risk activities as well.

By the way - he defrauded investors of 26 mio $ with clear cases of fraud - not incompetence. Still - I wonder how much jail time Elizabeth Holmes gets - likely none despite costing investors hundreds of millions.

I don't know why people say shit about law without knowing. I'm a lawyer, and I always check.

This was federal. There is parole in federal sentences.

He will do more than FIVE years, even with good time.

We will see how much Elizabeth Holmes gets.

It's still funny how the law is applied differently to the genders.

The problem of his was not defrauding the visitors or endngering their lives, the issue was that he defrauded investors. I expected him before to have better connections, but that was before more was known about the case.

He may have to go through 5 years while Holmes so far has paid a 5000$ fine and is out and galivanting with her trust-fund boyfriend.

Also - when I made the prediction I could not dream of that moron to go out and start ANOTHER CON-ARTIST BUSINESS!!!! That is likely what contributed to him getting a more severe sentence. The DA even called him a "consummate con-artist" mostly because of his post-Fyre-festival con. It's possible that this cost him 2 extra years behind bars.

Netflix and Hulu have put out documentaries you've probably heard of by now (Fyre and Fyre Fraud, respectively), both of which are interesting to watch and compare side-by-side, but of course, some would say the definitive doc on Fyre Festival is about 11 minutes long and viewable for free:

You mean there is no parole in federal cases.
Did not know that shitposting on the internet required a law degree and you are honestly going to pull that card whether he will be 5 or 3 years behind bars. Heck - he could go 6 years+ because that idiot could run a con behind bars.

It's really funny when guys roll out old posts just because being miffed over something else - religion of peace not peaceful enough, civic nationalist feelings hurt etc.

Honestly Jarule like all the other celebs were duped victims like the rest. He put his neck out the most and it could cost him.

Ja Rule likely thought that Billy was the business guy who in addition knew how to party just like him. Turns out that it was just 2 party guys who both did not know how to work out a business plan, organize and administer all the details. Sure - there are idea men in business, but they still wade through a lot of details and have to have some acumen. Instead they were both party guys who only knew how to have a good time - plus Billy knew how to sell, but not to create a good product.

Yes, I made a typo. You got me.

There's no parole in federal cases, hence he has to serve the complete sentence minus earned good time of max 57 days a year.

In the end, you either say true stuff or you don't.

< Heh - I am not denying your words to be untrue. A wiser me wouldn't say or write so - much - some of it not well-thought through or researched, but there is also Dick from the Internet:

Both are legit talking points - the balance between truth and shitposting. Not everything is easy to predict like this case which had a strict legal requirement - many issues vary strongly in terms of assessment.

The funny part is as one of my many jobs in corporate I was once filling in for the legal department because our boss was too stingy to pay for a lawyer. All I did was do a little research on the topic, calculate the risk/reward ratio of going to court vs settlement and give my opinion to the boss before we would hand it over to some external lawyers. I have to say that I was correct 100% of the time in terms of what to do - sometimes the owner having ignored my advice taking the whispers of the lawyer (we can do it, you are absolutely on the right side, how dare he demand that payment etc.). He usually paid double or triple with fees and then blamed me for going to court - heh. Never mind that I adviced for a quick settlement, but that is the prerogative of the owner-CEO - you can be a dick.

Either way - could have researched the case if I cared about it more. Usually they put on soft-gloves in those cases, but this is a special one since he defrauded investors with power and money - stranding the Instagram-Millennials on an island was of little consequence. Plus that idiot pulled off another heist after the Fyre festival, how insane can you be?
