What are the security camera in your home/apartment laws in California? Can you record both audio and video?

IANAL, but I don't think there is a way to legally record audio in CA w/o warrant unless you have consent of all parties.

Recording video in public locations, however, seems to be ok. In private locations, not so.

Just video, audio and video in separate spots, audio/video together? Do you just need a sticker on your front door saying you have a security camera system?

Even with a sticker there is such thing as "expectation of privacy". For example, a clothing store can record video in the store, but not in the bathroom or fitting rooms.

The main question, however, is why would you record the video. Are you just making your own private porn collection, and do not intend to share it with anybody? Or you want to post it to youporn, or maybe even sell to some other site?

Every Player should have a google voice account, anyway.

For such cases SkypeIn may be actually better. If you use call forwarding from GV to your real phone, it is just one subpoena away. Skype seem to be HQ'd in Europe, so it is more difficult.

Audio is illegal. Just don't get caught. Beats catching a rape case.

FYI, here's a state-by-state guide:

the next day text is a good idea. maybe getting food together after could work for me too.

I couldn't be bothered doing any of the other things.

I really doubt / hope a chick would ever accuse me of anything like this though...

For security purposes. I want to avoid shit like fake rape and so on. I do not want me or anybody I've been with to show up on some fucking website. And for general security purposes, like robberies. A bedroom is a bit general purpose. And owners putting security/nanny cams in their house/business is a bit different then a random person putting a cam in someone else's property. I care about legality because if it's illegal to record such things, couldn't it possibly be inadmissible?

If exculpatory video evidence such as this was presented during a trial in front of a jury, and later found to be inadmissible, the case would most likely be declared a mistrial by the Court. It is the sort of evidence that is so overwhelming that the Jurors would be prejudicial in any decision after having viewed it. In the event of a Bench Trial, I'd imagine the Judge would need to recuse himself from any future proceeding if the evidence was found to be inadmissible and the prosecution still decided to continue.

In the event of any mistrial, it would be up to to the State/District Attorney's Office to refile charges against the Defendant. This of course most likely would not happen because the State/District Attorney's Office would be under scrutiny from the media/ACLU if it decided to refile despite the evidence. (Ethically they shouldn't WANT to refile charges against an innocent man, but most prosecutors are draconian assholes.)

Who knows what could happen with the pattern of overzealous prosecutions in the U.S.?

It's all about statistics and conviction rates. Justice doesn't even factor in.
