When I saw the play In The Next Room, or the vibrator play, I was amused to see all the spring powered Victorian-era vibrators for "relieving female hysteria" in the foyer. The play itself is about the victorian doctors who first learned female massage, then started building all sorts of crazy "labor saving" contraptions to get women off faster so they could cash out more office visits per day. It was inspired by the book The Technology of Orgasm, which itself is a hoot of a read.

If ever I get stuck traveling back in time, I now know what profession I'll be making bank at.

Now there's a movie coming out about the same historical business that the play was about. Called "Hysteria".

Stroking off so many women per day that you'd have to soak your hands in ice afterwards might be a bit too much.
