Steem: The Uncensorable and Profitable Twitter and Facebook Killer

Steem just got a major boost today and is blowing up, after this excellent article

For those who can speak Russian, there is a Russian version which still has pretty good payouts and a lot lower bar to whale status.

Steem sucks because one is not allowed to cross post articles. They want exclusive original content only. I tried to cross post an RoK article and got downvoted hard. No one is going to devote their life to a site so they can make .04 a post.

Samseau, lets hope they loosen up a bit once they get greater adoption. I haven't tried to cross-post anything yet, but I imagine once you get more people on board other than just the "true believer" types that want a "one platform or die" mentality, that there's still tremendous possible upside to such a platform.

In related news, they ranked very well in a recent agency review of cryptos: https://steemit.com/news/@jrcornel/weiss...s-in-top-5

The RoK thing you posted - was that an article you wrote for RoK or something else on RoK?

I fail to understand how Steem is attractive. It might be attractive if I already have a blog on a subject that I was passionate about. Then I can just post content from that blog on Steem. (Unless their exclusivity clause prevents you from even posting your own ideas and words on your blog, which is beyond ridiculous).

Who is going sit down for an hour or two a day to write original content for a platform that pays them peanuts today but that might pay more than peanuts at some point in the future? (contingent, I would imagine, on gaining a large following on the platform).
Seems like a lot of work for very little payoff.

If I recall right, they pay you in crypto so your earnings could fluctuate significantly.

Steem might be useful if it does not pander to SJWs and it allows streaming. Then when youtube and facebook and twitter shut down Roosh, Molyneaux and other red pilled men (I assume it is only a matter of time), then they have a clear alternative.

Does anyone know how to growth-hack Steemit? It seems as if people don't give a shit about quality content and that it is all just about the number of followers you have. So basically like any other social network. I see people with shitty steemit posts that make 500+ USD per post just because they have a big following that keeps upvoting their stuff.

Steem is also vulerable to SJW fags as well. The strong holders of Steem can downvote anyone and destroy them. So if they want to censor manosphere articles, you're fucked and there's nothing you can do about it. If they hate right-wing politics, you get downvoted and make 0.00.

Steem is anything but decentralized. Look into its policies and you'll how flawed they are.

Steem actually does have some SJW shit on it. It has alot of random shit on it. It has a fuckload of tiny little minnows trying to boost their follower-count. Another big problem that someone else mentioned is that since we are a bit late to entry, the whales with the most followers have almost all the power.

In regards to publishing actual content, without the goal of making money, I would recommend Mastodon as the best decentralized social media platform. Check it out at https://mastodon.social Alot of hackers are using it, which makes it kinda badass.

Sort of like Facebook, without the money-blockchain shit that Steemit has going on.

If your goal is to make money from your content, just man up and start a WordPress site. Yes, this means hosting, domains, etc.

I checked it out but I'll stick with trying to build up my GAB and Twitter (when I'm not shadowbanned or locked out)

Right, so I really don't get how this works.

I made a post 8 days ago and it's had 24 views, 4 upvotes, and $0.

Someone replied on it 20 hours ago, and have had 5 upvotes and made $1.50 on that reply. WTF?

Looks like change is on horizon for sure but, I think it needs time to get a working advertisement and media mesh for true revenue.

It needs to get a fucking way to buy steem without running it through Bittrex. That's what it needs.

Any upvote based forum will fail (not die, Reddit is popular but poorly done), particularly if politics are involved. Whichever side has more numbers will brigade the other side to oblivion.

It is basically the forum version of universal suffrage democracy.

Curious as well.

Centralization is the price we pay for easy features and benefits.

Facebook is the greatest example, there's tons of apps and ways to use Facebook...but they take all your data.

Steemit may have centralization, but that's the price to pay for free marketing and free money.

The most decentralized platform is your own blog hosted on your own ISP using your own code. However you sacrifice the social network doing this way.

Gotta make a choice.

^^ Your own blog is not decentralized. You need to read up on the difference between centralized vs decentralized.

That's not true, vast majority of people are posting content elsewhere, as you said it wouldn't be worthwhile to post only on Steemit

This is a unique situation but a girl who did makeup videos made something like $40,000 off a single post. There's other people making hundreds or even thousands off of a post, not the norm but it happens.

Most content on Steemit is shit, nobody is spending hours writing articles, its either reposting content you've already created for another blog or youtube or something or it's people posting dumbass memes. Nobody is putting in a ton of time. The way Steemit works you only get paid for 7 days so it would be silly to put in time or make long form content, that itself could be Steemit's downfall

Your not gonna get anywhere just posting content, its all about curating ie upvoting other peoples shit, connecting with others so you upvote their stuff and they upvote yours, participating in the dumb daily contests, etc. Really though at the end of the day unless you load up your account with a shitload of money or befriend a "whale" your not getting anywhere. More recently the price of steem was wiped out so interest in the platform is somewhat lackluster

If you know how to setup bots to comment, curate, upvote and create content or repost content you can make some passive money

If your moderately tech saavy and can setup a bot that upvotes, posts comments and/or grabs trending reddit posts and reposts them on Steemit you can make some money very passively, a bit of a headache to get setup though.

Nah, not at all tech savvy when it comes to that sort of thing! The reward for my time isn't high enough to worry about it I don't think. I've sacked it off for now.
