Is the secret to a happy life to give/share instead of boosting your accomplishments?

I recently saw this RSD video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_UJt8pgt0o

Tyler mentions we should give instead of just thinking about ourselves and our egos, since that leads to self-consciousness, consumerism, approach anxiety, pain from rejections, etc.

But OTOH, when he says we already have what we need in life and don't need to get anything from others and should stop thinking about ourselves, I can see that as a problem as some guys will think its ok to be complacent and lazy.

What do you guys think about this video?

I didn't sit through the entire hour-long video, but from what I got when he was using that one guy as an example wasn't exactly about giving to others instead of taking but rather in a social context developing a manner of presentation where everyone feels included. You are providing a social environment for the people around you instead of just interacting with one person and eliciting what you want from them.

This is sort of about being the AMOG and making everyone around you feel welcomed and engaged. Speaking with your big boy voice, speaking in a way that makes others around you feel included, etc.

In a larger scale perspective, I personally don't think anyone is selfless. What Tyler talks about in this video is still selfish. It's about establishing yourself within a group. All eyes on you, being the source of entertainment, and setting your place as the fun guy people want to be around and talk to. There is personal benefit to be gained.

In life, personal growth as well as community involvement are both intrinsically human qualities. One can get a great sense of pleasure and personal fulfillment from both.

Starting around 18:25 in the video, he talks about how our egos/self-images get in our way, which is why its hard for those people to be fun and comfortable around others
