Ray Peat - Holistic Health

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with his work, but it's interesting none the less. For reference he does have his Ph.D in biology from University of Oregon.

He has recommended specific diets for people and has interesting perspectives regarding human health and it's relation to inflammation, the thyroid, hormones and stress.

One thing that is interesting is that he doesn't demonize sugar like everyone else does. He does advocate many other things that is common in the RooshV forum like coconut oil, bone broth etc. He also claims we need to eat more than just pure muscle meat so we can get the appropriate amino acids.

Here is a brief break down of the diet structure. Keep in mind he recommends experimenting as well as monitoring your temperature, blood work and other vitals.

He also has a vast article index for further reading here:

Some sample titles
The dark side of stress (learned helplesness)
Physiology texts and the real world
Regeneration and degeneration: Types of inflammation change with aging

An interview with him:

“Making an effort to learn how to use techniques of food, hormones, light, activity, etc., is similar to the effort needed to work with a psychologist, and the effort itself is part of the therapy—the particular orientation of the psychotherapist isn’t what’s therapeutic, it’s the ability to participate in meaningful interactions, that is, the ability to provide a situation in which the person can practice being human. When people start thinking about the things in their life that can be changed, they are exercising aspects of their organism that had been atrophied by being in an authoritarian culture. Authoritarians talk about protocols, but the only valid ‘protocol’ would be something like ‘perceive, think, act.’” —Raymond Peat, PhD

This guy sounds like a moron.

90% of what he suggests is acidic, full of starch, and hybrids.

If you really want to get on the right path, follow Dr. Sebi's teachings.

Do you look behind the logic and evidence of what he says? Blanket statement to just say he's moronic.

The food recommendations map looks like an overly generalized cluster-f*ck. Each person has a physiology that demands unique considerations.

Recommendations for ripe bananas doesn't make sense on the surface as sugar content increases the riper they are. Potatoes are not an ideal food due to phytates which many people are sensitive to. Dairy is extremely inflammatory and promotes insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) and is implicated in many studies linked to cancer / tumor development. Only saturated fats are stable (though can still go rancid) and PUFA / MUFA are even more likely to oxidize and cause inflammation. They are best to be avoided entirely unless absolutely fresh. Avocados are an excellent food source for many people and I see no reason they need to be excluded from diet is one is not allergic. Sugar needs to be an occasional treat not a food group into itself - ridiculous! Especially as we age, it's important to cut out processed or even excess natural sugars as they cause more rapid aging due to oxidative damage that's harder to repair.

If he's not pointing out possible pitfalls of his recommendations then this kind of advice is very incomplete and suspect.

I generally find that blood type diets are a good place to start then eliminate as many of the '12 bad foods' as possible (link in my signature). If you have food sensitivities follow the GAPS diet (which is bone broth - based). You need to find what works for you, as kbell is doing in his thread. Don't take anyone's word for anything, including me - cross-reference and examine those sources then test out for yourself.

I just ended his logic w/ 1 sentence. Keyword: acidic, starches, and hybrids.

You look up these foods he is suggesting and tell me the alkalinity levels.

Truth Tiger is right on all points. Ultimately, once a health authority suggests even a single bad food, I am out. You cannot listen to people who are blatantly proving how full of shit they are. Sugar? Really. My post could be 3 pages deep if I wanted to just wreck him at every food group he recommends. My ears fall deaf to bullshit.

Dr. Sebi is the light. Do your research and you will never look back. You might even want to delete this thread afterwards. That is how confident I am about his work. He's underrated in the RVF community, but a few people already know what's up.
