Iceland stopover - but to where? Early December

Hey Guys,

Hate to post this type of thread.

I found a cheap ticket to Iceland for early December.

Thinking of checking out a Northern or Western Europe city for a few days.

Any suggestions??

Helsinki, Copenhagen come to mind.

Did you get one of those cheap Iceland air tickets where they include a layover of a couple of days in Iceland before continuing on? I've seen the ads in Edmonton and Halifax, it seems like a pretty good deal and I may check it out too.

CPH has a special place in my heart, despite the hate it receives here. I try to visit every year, and it doesn't disappoint. Only been to Helsinki once, however, so I can't really comment on it!

I was leaning towards CPH - is it expensive?

Yeah, it's pretty pricey. Meals can be quite costly if you're there for an extended period, but on the plus side if you want to see any attractions, museums etc...most are free, or dirt cheap, and beer is reasonably priced.

If you're only there for a few days, you don't have to worry it as much. Just book an airbnb, and you already save yourself $40+ a night.

I took one of those Iceland Air flights from Edmonton to London.

I had a 24 hour stopover in Reykjavik, in January. It was fun, warmer than Edmonton too.

Plenty has been said about Iceland here, so I won't say anymore, other than go for it.

Scandinavia is awesome in winter, winter slows them down none at all and people are friendlier actually. They are much more open too, their summer schedules are booked solid from May to Sept.

Hi
I'm currently in Helsinki and struggling a bit , I'm writing reports on here if you want a recent update .

Reykjavic I can recommend from personal experience, if you can time it around a weekend
And hit the booze / clubs hard you can probably get laid by following roosh' guide from a few years back . ( if that's your thing )

I stayed in a studio apartment on the street literally opposite B5 bar . If your interested I could dig it out , was ideal for me anyway.

Cheers

Hi Rod,

I have done Iceland twice and have friends I can crash with.

Will you be in Finland in early December?

Where is the best area to stay?

Anywhere in the 'city'.

CPH is split up into several areas - Vesterbro, Chrisianshavn, Frederiksberg, Nørrebro, and Østerbro.

I've stayed in Vesterbro before, which isn't a far walk, and there's a cheap hotel near there on Carsten Niehburhs which is very close to the meatpacking district (clubs), and the bus stations. However, I do recommend you stay in the 'city'. Sort of anything between H.C Andersens Boulevard and gothersgade...

I also stayed in Frederiksberg, and you need a bus to reach the city centre, so it's not really worth it, despite the price decrease.

Yes, very, but you can save money by going local, get AirBNB with kitchen and make your own food or eat nothing but kebab. Drink from home. Norrebro area would be a good bet.

CPH is great, and lots of Icelandic chicks are there for school in the winter too.

Price wise, its a bit more than Canada for some things, but on a whole its about the same. Good news is that my favorite hotel in CPH is about $180 rather than summer price of $500!

Just walk around Strøget during the day. You'll see a bevy of women to approach and talk to.

Last time I was in CPH there was an Icelandic bar near the center, small place, can't quite remember the exact location tho.
