College Freshmen/Profs warned against saying "You Guys" on the campus

College students are told they can't say 'you guys' because it might be sexist and they can't ask Asian strangers for help with math

Quote:Quote:

Freshmen at a college orientation event have been told not to address other students with the phrase 'you guys' because it could be interpreted as excluding women.
Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, has hired a chief diversity officer, Sheree Marlowe, who has directed students on how to avoid subtle insults known as 'microaggressions'.
The trained lawyer who is 'committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education' recently told freshmen at Clark they should avoid asking a black student if he plays basketball.

They should also not badger an Asian student they don't know for help with their math homework, The New York Times reports.
The term 'microaggression', coined by Columbia professor Derald Sue, refers to the 'brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities' that 'communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults toward people of color'.

One example of a 'microaggression', that Marlow presented to an audience of around 525 first-year students at Clark, was to imagine what it feels like to see their race or gender not represented on a 'wall of fame'.
'On your first day of class, you enter the chemistry building and all of the pictures on the wall are scientists who are white and male. If you're a female, or you just don't identify as a white male, that space automatically shows that you're not represented,' she said.

However, not everyone thinks training students in watching out for 'microaggression' is a good idea.
Conservative commentator John Podhoretz said on Twitter: 'Sheree Marlowe, the voice of the new totalitarianism.'
Clark University one of many colleges trying to clamp down on racial tensions and sexism on campus.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has put together a programme to tackle such incidents after a racist letter was slipped under a black student's door last year.
Earlier this month it emerged students at Rutgers University have been advised to use language that is 'kind' and 'necessary' and avoid offensive terms such as 'retarded' and 'that's so ghetto' so that they don't commit 'microaggressions'.
A bulletin board, titled 'Language Matters: Think', has been put on display in at least one hall of residence on the campus, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, telling them to question whether their choice of words is 'true' and 'helpful'.

Last year Professors at the University of California were urged not to use a number of 'offensive' phrases, such as describing America as a 'melting pot' or the 'land of opportunity'.
The phrases were included on a list of 'microaggressions' faculty members have been advised not to use, fearing they could be deemed sexist or racist.
'There is only one race, the human race' and 'I believe the most qualified person should get the job,' are also soundbites academics are not allowed to say, in the eyes of administrators.

Soon, it'll be illegal to say anything, to anyone. We are getting there...

First you can get tampons in a mens bathroom. Now you are not allowed to ask an Asian (any) for help on math.

It may be easier to just lay down and wait for the Russians/Chinese/Koreans/Canadians/Mexicans/French/(OR PLEASE GOD SOMEONE) to invade and make us right in the world. The stupid decadence burns highly.

This is good news. As microaggression culture gets more and more extreme, ordinary people can see its absurdity more clearly.

Where I went to college, language policing was intense from freshman (freshperson) orientation onward. The main target: those of us who said GIRL for WOMAN. By the end of first semester, there were virtually no holdouts. Also, during orientation, men had to dance butt-to-butt, elbows interlocked, with another man, an anti-homophobic training activity.

They actually made people do that and nobody complained or felt uncomfortable?

Good Lord almighty. I don't know how you survived, man. That's just insanity at its highest form.

I'm surprised with all of this ridiculousness going on lately with "safe spaces" and "microaggressions" and "trigger warnings" that college enrollment in America hasn't significantly dropped. If it was a Southern school that pulled this bullshit, I would (if I had the money) transfer as soon as possible to a conservative-leaning university. At least they have their heads on straight.

It is downright terrifying how the administrators are allowing all of this to happen. If there are campus protests, then they need to be against these absurdities instead of the shit that was pulled at Yale, Mizzou, DePaul, Emory, etc.

And this upcoming generation of fragile snowflakes is being counted on to change the world and lead the United States of America?

Another fat unmarried black woman, with no kids, a law degree from California, and was raised by a single mother. Typical.

Just when you hope some of them snap out of the funk, they always go right back to their liberal masters to double reinforce social dysfunction, sealing their fate of having no legacy to pass down, and making certain that you will not either. The fucking degrees on her wall, she is so proud of, will decompose in the earth and die just like her body will. No one will put them on another wall after she dies, they will go to the landfill to be buried like her.

What a waste.

Well, that's the missing piece to the puzzle. And not a surprising one.

Women with PHDs will often end up alone. Their hypergamy only allow them to “love” men with a PHD or higher—currently, that equates to 1% of the US population: https://www.reference.com/education/perc...120884e2a3

Usually, these women frantically scour the campus looking for a single, male professor. And many of them don't find one they want--or that wants them. The irony is that the femcentric hiring practices that gave them a job are the same ones that have diminished the amount of male professors where they work—some of these liberal arts departments, for example, are 75% women. Thus, these overly-credentialed women hit panic mode when they realize that their pool of available is suitors is minuscule and spinsterhood is on the horizon.

I wonder sometimes if the British lost the Northeastern part of the U.S on purpose back during the Revolutionary War.

It's a good thing she has no kids. If she had a son, he would probably be another Jaden Smith.

When speaking about theoretical scenarios, you must remember the golden rules.

bosses = she
murderer/violent character = he
student misbehaving/struggling in school (I see this constantly) = he
student excelling = she

Of course, when pronouns are associated with negatives, the response always falls to the anti-safe space sentiment of, "oh, it doesn't mean anything. "He" is just the common term used to describe an unknown person."

However, if the boss in an HR or PD presentation that isn't about sexual harassment is a man, it is a conscious, sexist assertion that women cannot hold positions of power.

As part of my job, I have to write up scenarios, and I do follow these rules. Being subversive is too risky. No one is looking for or would recognize balance. As you say, a single 'incorrect' example is evidence of bias.

Hey you guys...oops...my bad. I'm not surprised because some areas in eastern Massachusetts - Worcester, Northampton, Amherst, and Holyoke - are a notorious indoctrination training ground for social justice and feminism.

What is the next "gender pronouns" lesson? Babyself?

I've actually had a black man call me "you people."

It was in a bar full of black people, where I was the only white dude present. He was new in town and didn't know who I was.

Everyone had a pretty good laugh at his expense.

I can't believe how bad it's gotten in the past couple years. I'm about 2 years out of school, but after your general coursework you encounter normal people unless you stick with the school of liberal arts. My first few semesters were complete nonsense.

When I went through orientation in 2010, they gave the don't bang drunk girls speech, but pretty much left it at that.

Now it has hit a tipping point into complete insanity. There's no way higher education will exist in it's current form a decade from now.
