Tips for Halls of Residence in UK Universities

So i'll be living in halls starting this September for a year (freshers) and would like some thoughts/ advice.

I know there's a big drinking culture which i'm not into that much but will be get involved at times.

I have been trying to find threads about halls of residence uni accomodation with no luck so thought i'd start one.

Is it pretty easy to bring a girl back to your halls? How to deal with other flat mates? Best ways of making friends?

If you have any experience of living in halls would be great to share [Image: smile.gif]

Introduce yourself to everybody at the start of the year. Starting with your floor then moving on to the other floors. Depending on the size of your residence hall, this could be anywhere from 50 to almost a thousand people you meet over a course of two or three days. Be cool, take down numbers of all the people you even sort of click with.

Go to all the activities your school puts on specifically for freshers. Extremely easy to meet people.

As for your other questions, they highly depend on your specific hall, but it is college and there is a lot of fucking going on so there is usually a way to figure it out. If you have your own room, you are golden, but if you have a roommate a simple "I need the room" text should be sufficient most times. There's always the basement and the laundry room if need be.

But the most important thing to do is to introduce yourself to everybody, especially the girls, and take down numbers like a machine. This is the easiest approaching you'll ever have the opportunity to take advantage of.
