How much importance do you place on your car?

I agree if you have the means, then enjoy it. Many cars are better brand new anyway. Especially cars with a lot of power, like the Nissan GTR.
I would rather buy a Mustang GT-500(350) new over one used, and if I can't afford that, I would look to used Japanese offerings.
In my experience, and from what I hear from other guys in the used car business, 90's American made is not so good unless you are going for the body on frames, and even then care is needed. Japanese and some euro made is usually better in the case of old cars.
When you look at that, you can see why some guys would want to get new; it is less of a hassle if you can afford it.

I've never really been into cars and I'm not really the type to show out so for me the I want something reliable, newer and clean but don't really care if its a Hyundai or a Beamer.
One thing I wish I had taken into consideration with my car purchase is the comfortability of the seats, ride, noise elimination, etc.
I have a newer elantra, however on road trips the seats are incredibly uncomfortable and road noise is terrible. You dont need to get a beamer but even stepping up to like a camry or an accord things feel much more solid, much more comfortable ride, etc.

Any recommendations on compact SUVs? I live in a city now, but I love driving out into nature and camping, so I'd like to have higher ground clearance and more ruggedness. Additionally, I live in Texas, so I feel like I need the added road presence even a smaller SUV can provide while surrounded by Super Duties and Silveradoes on the highway.
I want to downsize from my current ride, a 2003 Ford Expedition, only got 96k miles on it but it's got dents, chips, and a huge indent on the left front bumper cause it's too fucking big for garages with pillars everywhere, and I often have to go out of my way to find a space big enough for it.
I'm looking at older models of the Merc GLK, BMW X3, Audi Q3. I really like the look of the GLK, since it was distinctive and reminds me of the G wagon, and in particular like the 250 with its diesel engine that gets a ridiculous 30 MPG. I just feel like it's a sorority girl car though, I see them all around town with Tri Delt and KKG stickers on the back and it makes me second guess myself.
Thoughts gents?

This was used a lot when I was young and really into the underground scene. I would invite girls to come back to listen to Fugazi records.
This is the first time in recorded history that Fugazi was used to remove panties.

Unfortunately life dictates that I place a lot of importance on my car, I need it to get to work 5 days a week and I live in the hood so anytime I want to leave I need the car. I bought a used car a few months ago and I wanted something I could buy not finance, something economical, 4 doors, AWD, and good reliability, I ended up getting a really good deal on a 05 Mitsubishi Outlander and it meets all of my needs.
At the end of the day though I hate having to rely on a car, I'd much rather live in a compact city with a top tier metro system.

I live in Lebanon (the country) and the highly materialistic culture means that a nice car is a very welcome advantage in the social and dating scene. It would make sense to buy a nicer car herw if you can afford (even if you can't as most do here)

Just do what makes you happy and the game will do the rest as mentioned above. I prefer full-size luxury cars and also have a classic Sunday driver.

Very little importance...
I currently drive a 2008 Dodge Avenger that I bought for $7900 CAD. I have a high income from my business and substantial savings. The purchase was 100% based on value (90k Kms, reliable), and luckily it's not a bad looking car either. I think a car is one of the easiest way someone can save money, although if you really love cars, no price is too high if it's what makes you happy.
I would strongly advise not to spend a huge amount of money on a car unless it's a small fraction of your net worth and you really love cars. Personally I'd buy a cheap and reliable car and invest the money saved.

Coming from a car guy, I drive what I drive because it's what I like. I'm a HUGE mustang fanatic! I dump way more money than I should into the few that I own but because it's my hobby and it makes me feel good getting up in the morning and turning the key in my 400 horsepower daily driver or late Saturday nights driving around listening to my favorite songs with no destination in mind in one of my older models, do women I take with me enjoy it? Yes, but I don't do it to entertain them I do it because I like driving my cars. What I'm getting at here is buy a car because it's what you want or because it feels right never buy a car for image.

I had an old Audi A3 that I bought for £450 to get me to and from work. I needed it at the time because I finish work after public transport stops, and I don't fancy the hours walk home when it's raining. I had sunk about £2000 into repairs and maintenance over the 4 years that I had owned it, then one night driving home from work the engine seized and the timing belt snapped despite my maintaining it. The car has since been scrapped.
Whilst it is a pain in the arse getting two buses to work, my employer now puts on staff transport most nights to get me home. I've changed my shifts around to make it as convenient as possible, and although it is not as convenient as having a car, I don't miss the expense. The extra inconvenience of public transport has lit a fire under my arse to get my side business off the ground so I don't have to be a wage slave anymore.
