Do you wish an ex you recently broke up with happy birthday?

Things going south in a relationship around holidays like birthdays, Christmas, New Years are always a difficult situation and not ideal, but we can't always control when things are necessary. I think one of the reasons online dating collapses around the winter holidays here is because girls stay in relationships they're not entirely invested in, simply to not be alone or deal with the excess drama.

This is Cuffing Season: During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be "Cuffed" or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed. It's also no coincidence that Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Valentine's Day are all around this time, too.

However, these times are also when girls try and get out of situations they're not invested in. My freshman year of college I had been seeing a girl for a month and we got along well, but she kept making excuses about not wanting to be exclusive. Then the week of Valentine's she broke up with me. On Valentine's Day itself I saw her in the dining hall eating dinner alone and looking miserable. A few days later she comes crawling back saying she missed me and made a mistake.

Likewise, a girl whose birthday was right after New Years ended things with me before Christmas. So I didn't wish her a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Years, or a Happy Birthday. After I was silent on her birthday she got in touch asking why I didn't wish her a happy holidays or birthday, then tried to catch up. Sounds like someone had a lonely couple of weeks.
