Degenerate Rich Kids

I was recently watching a UK show called "Rich Kids of Instagram" which is all about degenerate rich kids doing nothing with their lives but partying and flaunting their wealth & lifestyle on Instagram. It got me thinking, is it more likely for rich kids to fall into a life of degeneracy because of that safety net their parents provide for them compared to someone growing up middle-class in the suburbs?

I had a cousin that went to private school in NYC and he used to tell me stories all the time about what the degenerate rich kids were up to. At 15, the worst we were doing was smoking weed & drinking alcohol at parties (with some of us still trying to lose our virginity). At 15 they were snorting coke, abusing prescription pills and throwing weird sex parties. The private school kids were always much more advanced in their debauchery compared to us public school kids.

I saw that. The British guy was a self-made rich kid I believe who was balling. So was the IRT guy who got rich from startups, tryhard, but also balling with a jetsetting lifestyle.

I was disgusted by the one kid (guy) who used facial creams and the thing with the cucumber slices over the eyes and taking selfies. There was also the over the top gay Asian fashion designer who at one point was skipping across the street in public. I mean WTF? Just nauseating.

What really struck me was the Khazakhstan guy. There was a brief scene where his dad was present, who had hard, stern features. Compared to his metro son. My overall takeaway was the importance of fathers. Lots of these kids just lived away from their families the whole time via study abroad and got consumed by their own narcissism and pretensions.

This is why Trump's family is so impressive. It's not easy to grow up well adjusted and super rich right in the heart of New York. Especially since Trump isn't some nameless faceless billionaire but an actual brand and icon of the city with all sorts of connections.

Good thread, I've thought about this a lot.

Look at what recently happened with Joe Budden. This dude's a rapper who's been talking shit about Drake for the past few weeks, so he's been talked about a lot recently.

Anway, last Sunday some teenage kids ran up to him while he was sitting in his car in his driveway and harassed him. Joe chased them down and threatened to kill them. Meanwhile they recorded the whole thing - Did it all for Twitter and Instagram followers.

Here's one of the kids' Twitter.

Point is, these three retards who ran up on Joe are rich high school kids living in the suburbs who fit the description of this thread perfectly. I know and have met a lot of these kids in my life, especially in high school. Usually white or mixed but love to talk like a nigga, rich parents, skinny, annoying loud bitch voices, wears snapbacks and clothes with a million brands, heavily active on social media, and above all love to act like a punk thug who grew up on the streets.

I agree with OP for the most part but have my own thought process when it comes to what really causes this. It all comes down to the kind of role their parents have in their lives. It generally goes one of both ways: If the parents are the strict Ivy league-type parents with a heavy presence in the kid's life, usually a beta dad and nerdy mom with both parents having high-paying jobs and also a good relationship with each other, the kid ends up being the 'nerd' - Cares about school, gets good grades, goes on to make mom and dad proud. On the other hand, if the parents are more loose, spending much less time with their kid, usually the parents cheating on one another and the dad is the only one with the job while the mom does whatever the fuck she wants during the day, the kid end up a punk wannabe-hoodrat.

And that's the funniest aspect of it - Watching these punk rich kids try hard to make others think they're 'street'. They usually end up being a plug selling drugs to their friends and classmates and a lot of them even try to be up and coming rappers. 100% of the time it fails. [Image: lol.gif]

You're right OP, a lot of these kids end up pursuing this because of the safety net their parents give them. Many of these punks end up in jail at least once before they reach their 20's. Actual poor gangbangers take risks that make economic sense to them when they break the law and it's awful for them and their family when they get caught and end up in jail, but these faggots proudly go to jail knowing that their classmates will hear about it and a screenshot or video of the moment will end up on social media for the whole school to see so that everyone knows how badass he is; and also knowing that mommy and daddy will bail them out.

It's also due to boredom. I'm not even joking. Usually their parents don't make them work, so if you have a car and a law-safety net from your parents, what do you honestly think a bunch of high school kids will decide to do with their time? That's also why you hear about stuff like this happening more over the summer. When there's no work PLUS no school, these rich kids need to fill up their time with something.

I'll end by recommending anyone who's interested in what I'm saying to watch the movie Project X if you haven't already. Perfect visual of what Im talking about. Three rich white high school kids in the suburbs throw a party at one of their parents' mansion of a house while mom and dad are out of town. House gets wrecked to shit. Everything's ruined. Spoiler: At the end of the movie, mom freaks out and dad gives an indicator of an "atta-boy" pat on the back and wink to his son. Rich kids will do this shit especially when they know mom and dad are lax pushovers who don't know how to be parents.

The movie actually gained a cultural following by rich high school kids in real life who also don't respect their parents. These kids would throw Project X copycat parties at their homes when mom and dad were away for the weekend and the homes would get wrecked to shit, just like in the movie.

This all went down when I, myself, was in high school. In fact, a 'shy girl' in my grade ended up throwing a Project X party the summer before senior year. A gang showed up and stole all her dad's guns and her mom's jewelry while she was in her room getting fucked by a football player. I remember having a crush on her all throughout high school being the beta that I was, not saying one word to her, thinking she was all innocent and shit, and then that happens. Haha, stupid bitch. But I digress.

Reminds of the thread about that kid with "affluenza".

The most destructive radicals seem to come out of the spoiled end of the upper class -- Bin Laden, Bill Ayers, et al.

I'm sure there's a whole branch of psychology that can be devoted to this.

I grew up surrounded by this kind of kids, since their parents don't really educate them ( their buttlers and nanies do) they don't usually give a fuck about society and well they can pay off whatever they wanted. Partying with them when we were in college was always vip table, hot girls and lots of cocaine ahh and don't forget the instagram posts with the champagne.

More importantly, how does one penetrate their social circles without being rich or having family connection or being famous ?

I tried very hard for a whole year here in Melb, near impossible.

Rich social circles tend to have the hottest girls.

^ hook them up with drugs.

Anyway, I don't think it's at all accurate to compare the debauchery of spoiled rich kids with lower-middle-class types who grow up in rough neighborhoods. One of those types are the way they are because they live a perfect sheltered (boring) life where nothing goes wrong and they always have a safety net so they feel invincible and create drama and entertainment for themselves. The other is a product of a shitty environment where drugs and violence are what surrounds them. This is why you don't hear about boat shoes wearing ralph Lauren Polo rocking white boys gang banging, selling rock, and holding up liquor stores.

The inner city kids who come from rough upbringings grow up in a place of strife where tribalism, hustling, and fighting and other primitive social structures are the rule of the land. Rich kids are sort of a microcosm of Western culture; what happens when everything is so prosperous and abundant - you become degenerate and manufacture drama to make life interesting and entertaining

Not to pop any one's Ivanka bubble, but she was pretty weird as a young kid.

Watch this documentary from the early 00s. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8o46HH-TfNY

Which is impressive how she grew up so well adjusted. Those Instagram kids on that show are all soft and degenerate faggots. Even gay guys would hate on these idiots.

This is what happens when you have money, youth, absent parents, and endless narcissism from social media.

Good for them.
Best to get rich first before you worry about you or your kids becoming degenerate.

What else they gonna do? Say "oh I have more money than I can spend... so.... best check myself into a monastery". Nope.

42% of billionaires are self-made ( http://www.forbes.com/sites/afontevecchi...ver-before ). There's no "OK so now you're rich, here's how to avoid your kid becoming a degenerate fuckup" manual.

That said, that could be a good informational product... Your end-user will have one hell of a lot of purchasing power [Image: biggrin.gif]

I'm with Phoenix on this one.
Trying to analyze the psychology of "rich kids" is extreme mental masturbation.
While your doing this, I'm putting in effort to get Richer and Fitter.

Back away from the hamster son, your ego/bias is showing.

Besides, how many people born into poverty join gangs?
How many people born into poverty rise from the ashes to accomplish great things?
How many rich kids end up not becoming degenerate and actually end up out-performing their parents success?

You will find an agreeable answer to any of the above questions if you look hard enough.

The problem with these rick kids is essentially the same as your average, entitled Feminist Power Girl with the Corporate Boyfriend and Daddy Government looking after her.

Rich Kids of Instagram is just anger-and-WTF-porn, a bit like those endless 'Benefits Street' clones. We're supposed to get mad at their behaviour or at least be "WTF are they doing?!!?!"

Of course I think these people are ridiculous but I honestly don't watch to hate or act out any kind of jealousy, It serves as a good example the trappings of opulent wealth if left unchecked, especially in terms of raising children. I watch every episode educationally.

I grew up with people like this, to a certain extent, although without the added social media nonsense that didn't exist back then.

The only thing I would say in their defence is that living in the shadow of a great man can be utterly overwhelming and result in very strange psychological behaviours and make ups.
