A coup happening in a NATO country

Yah pretty amazing when you think about it.

But if this is really a coup, I won't be shedding any tears for Erdogan. The military has a special kind of legitimacy in Turkey as it has long safeguarded Turkish (secular) democracy by keeping Islamists at bay. We can hope this goes down without too much bloodshed.

Apparently the Turkish military has said it has control of the country and has taken over. Is this good/bad news for Westerners?

Definitely, I won't shed any tears for Erdogan either, this might be a good thing happening right now, both for Turkey and Europe.

- The prime minister just left Ankara to escape the military.
- Some military generals are being held hostage
- There is a battle on the Bosphorus bridge
- Erdogan is "safe"

Erdogan is supposedly safe. If this is the start of a civil war that has been foreseen by many because of his madness, you can officially say goodbye to the EU.

I would not be suprised one bit if a civil war starts.

Although Erdogan does not control the army, he still has a lot of popular support.

Plus the Kurds might further escalate the conflict. This is the chance that I would not miss if I was Kurdish
