Tell me about Bay Area CA

I'm looking for work and a lot of the jobs I qualify for are in the Bay Area (not software).

Coloradical isn't really working for me so I'm open to moving.

I like the idea of being around all the capital, it seems to be the place to be if I ever want to get my startup going.

For all the talk of it being a gigantic assburgers sausauge fest, whats the scoop.

How much do I need to clear monthly to get my own place?

Anything else?

I think you already created a thread for another couple areas in Southern California.

There is a huge amount of information about these areas available online. I highly suggest you do some research or at least ask about a couple areas specifically.

The Bay Area is a huge space. There are areas separated by multiple large waterways and traffic can be horrendous if you're living the wrong way from your workplace. There are areas that are out in the boonies and not a lot of traffic to speak of. There are areas where you can spend $1,800 a month to rent a 3-bedroom apartment and there are areas where you can spend $1,200 a month to SHARE A BEDROOM.

Also, there is a gay area of San Francisco, it's called...

It really depends on where you mean by "Bay Area"

For starters, you'll need roommates, and secondly, it depends on your tolerance for commuting.

Marin is white, expensive and is guaranteed to involve commuting. (Rent 1000+/mo)
Sonoma is white/Hispanic, relatively cheap, and most likely would involve a fair amount of commuting for a high paying job (rent is 700/mo)
San Francisco is diverse and dirty, but avoid commuting problems. (Rent is 900-1200/mo)
Oakland area is not the place to be, unless you like it really ghetto/grungy (Rent varies greatly, but similar to SF)
San Jose is super super varied, and rent can be worse than SF.
Diablo Valley area is very upscale/white, rent is 1200/mo

All rents assume at least one other roommate, generally 3 is standard. These are 1 person per bedroom prices.

For how much you need it make it really depends on your other lifestyle costs and your future planning. If youre young, expecting future promotions, have no car payment or massive student loans and want to have fun, 60,000 will be fine in SF. If you want to be building wealth, 100+ with expected future raises is needed for SF

The other thread was about South Cali, but that job went nowhere.
Most of the stuff I do is in the bay area (semiconductor).

I've honestly never been there so not even sure what to ask? Cool place to be?

East Bay at the moment but not sure?

Where are the girls at I guess lol

I've never lived there but I've understood that the Bay Area is one of the worst places in America for girls. The ratio is really bad and a lot of the guys are making two commas a year and taking the best for themselves.

I've heard that too but 90% of venture capital is up there as well, which is where I need to be.
Bad as compared to what, middle of nowhere?

Moscow and NYC have plenty of guys who inherited their two commas and people seem to get by.

Any inputs from people out there would be appreciated !

Sonoma County isn't horrendous for girls, and even San Francisco at least has a high population of young single girls (there's just a greater number of younger guys)
