Who's using KODI for free movies & TV

I used to stream TV and movie content from some of the various streaming sites out there. It was good while it lasted, but the pop-ups and spam-ware is incredibly invasive. Even tried Popcorn TV, but honestly KODI blows them ALL out of the water. I've got mine loaded on an Amazon FireStick, however you can run it on your phone, pc, tablet etc.

Kodi on a firestick is probably the best and cheapest option for streaming local content to a non-smart TV. Amazon removed the app from their site, but it can still be sideloaded quite easily without requiring alteration of the OS on the device. If you can't follow an online walkthough for sideloading, you can by pre-loaded ones off ebay. You can plug in streaming services to it as well but I've had mixed results.

I was using it for a while but the user interface was really bad. But you could actually download some mods to make it better.

I was recently introduced to Kodi by a friend who claimed it was much much better than Netflix. I took the plunge and went through the process and installed a few mods. I am running it on my desktop so from the outset, it seemed a bit counter productive. I prefer using online platforms to view shows like primewire.

Exodus and Phoenix are the 2 main mods I got, but they were buggy as hell. The links worked and I was able to watch a lot of my favorite programs, but at the same time, live TV streaming wasn't the greatest. Not all the channels worked. Laggy. My impression is that a lot of these mods serve as link aggregators, so it would be pretty useless unless you are just live streaming tv and sports channels. I might have to take a bit more time and figure things out in terms of modular support. Apparently my friend also manages to get live HD PPV and other stuff, but I'm still figuring things out on my end. They have a community over at kodi.tv that provides a bit of help if you want to figure this out.

I'd say it's ok for cord cutters, but I'm gonna explore some more options. Perhaps get an apple TV and mod that.

Maine and Canadian lobsters are the same animal. Prove me wrong.

I use exodus and it's great. Not the best for browsing but if you know what you want to watch or want to watch something recent it's perfect.

I like Kodi. Some of the internet accessed content is good. However, I find it most useful as an indexer and player for local content. Don't hold out hope that this is even close to a Netflix replacement.
