Where to stay in Chicago?
06-19-2016, 09:36 AM
Planning a trip there for the 4th of July weekend. I did some research and read a few threads on here and many people suggest River North due to the amount of bars/clubs in that area.
I live in Manhattan so I would like something that offers a similar vibe. Any other areas in Chicago that may resemble something like the East Village, Meatpacking district, etc? Or just in general, is safe and has a good number of bars/clubs in the area?

Think I'll do Gold Coast. River North is pretty pricy. And uber from GC to RN is around $5

I'd like to know what your favorite spot is once you go, NextStop
I know Chicago pretty well but wonder from another's point of view
GC is the ultimate touristy and older type crowd, generally speaking
RN is tons of high end restaurants and many bars, clubs at this point ... with people out everywhere

I'd say River North (lotsa hotels) or Wrigleyville (prob have to go AirBnB). RN will give you NYC. Wrigleyville won't...but it will give you chicks who want dicks.
But really, River North. It's centrally located, has the bars and clubs, has vacationers looking for some fun...you can get to Old Town pretty easily where there's some good clubs, you can get to Wrigleyville via the train.
Be sure to hit up the Chicago boys while you're there. Some solid dudes there.

Stay somewhere with a rooftop bar. The Wit Hotel or The Dana. I've never stayed in either but both are probably good options, I went to the Vertigo Sky Lounge last time though, it was great.
Last time I stayed at the James which is also in River North. Upscale, modern, minimalist, not really a party hotel though but it was nice and the bathroom products were nice and you can get a David Burke Primehouse burger in room service 24 hours a day. Also right by Eataly so you can go drink at the wine bar there, etc.
A lot of the "easier" venues in the River North will be on Hubbard Street. There are a few bars and lounges (also Howl at the Moon for Cougars and El Hefe if you do well in a fratty scene) in a 2 block or so radius there.

The Virgin Hotel and London House Hotel also have rooftops that are pretty nice.

North of the river along the Mag mile is good. However, make sure to stay west of Michigan Avenue. East has very confusing streets which would hinder logistics for someone not very familiar with the area.

Nothing beats River North. If you get bored with it the West Loop has tons of new stuff but it's no River North. What kind of bars do you like? I've been to every bar on hubbard at least once and I recommend Henrys, Celeste, and Hubbard Inn. Three dots and a dash is great for 1 drink but way too packed 90% of the time. Some good ones right off Hubbard are Enolo Wine bar (great ratios), Siena Tavern, and Bub City (if you like country, I don't). Theres about 1000 other great bars so if you're more specific I'll tell you the best.
