Outside Opinions On Possible "Legal Issue"

In regards to service:

As stated before, this nut job will not simply go away, especially seeing what he thinks he is entitled to. I'm a numbers guy and for the life of me cannot make any sense of where he pulled these numbers from...

I just want to arm my self with as much information as possible prior to going into this. Earlier in the thread it was shown the multiple ways to go about service-- and I'm sure he will exhaust all three. I don't want to miss anything to have a default judgement rendered; then it makes us look guilty, even for something that we didn't do.

Since you are able to check the case online, you should be able to see if the case ever gets scheduled to be heard or if they finished serving you.

If there was enough money involved, like $10K or $20K, then I could see hiring a lawyer, but the most is only $2K on his side. You could easily end up spending more than that on a lawyer and, even if you win, not get legal fees paid by the other side.

The other problem is that even if you got a lawyer and won the whole thing, including getting legal fees paid, it is possible that the guy just can't or won't pay. Then you would have to make all kinds of additional effort just to try to get paid.

Depending on how 'nutty' the guy is, I suspect that if you just do nothing for a little while longer, other problems in his life will make it so he can't do anything and forgets about you.

With the situation as it is, I would consider it a 'gift' to end up only being out a few hundred dollars from the guy. Doing anything else, including volunteering for service, could make that amount go up dramatically.

Even going to small claims court has a cost, since you would need to take time and go to court on that day.

While I am understand it being nerve wracking, I would do nothing at this time. If they want to prefect service in all of the other ways possible, then left them spend the time and money to do so.
