Lesson of the day: Follow through with the divorce

While most "husband having to pay child support" stories don't qualify as news- this seems pretty outrageous.

Quote:Quote:

"I opened it up and it was child support, for a kid that is not even mine," he said.

The child was recently born to his long estranged wife, and there's no way it's his, he said.

"We've had no contact whatsoever in 16 or 17 years, and the child just turned one year old," Vandusen said.

But by law, Joe is still legally responsible and the state and its Child Support Recovery Unit, are telling him, he had better pay up.

"I explained to her this is not my child. I'm willing to do a paternity test and she flat out told me it does not matter, you're legally married to her. You're going to pay child support," Vandusen said.

The couple broke up but were never divorced, and Iowa law and many other states require husbands to pay child support for any child born during the marriage.

That's just insane. I don't know what else to say.

Lesson of the day: Don't get married

A man who procrastinates in his choosing will inevitably have his choice made for him by circumstance.

A true friend is the most precious of all possessions and the one we take the least thought about acquiring.

Wow... the shamelessness of the woman quite literally took my breath away for a second. Originally said that I'd either quit my job and/or move overseas, but it looks like the guy already has two biological kids and is supporting two more of his girlfriends and he just got laid off... guy's like the white male version of Precious.

Not just the shamelessness, but the strategy...some states give you one year to appeal paternity. She waits till after a year to let him know.

So the courts basically are saying, "If she has an affair on you and has a child you have to pay"..No way can this hold up if challenged in court. So basically, you come home and find your wife in bed with 5 guys and leave her. 9 months later she has a child of a different race, but the courts say you have to pay??

P.S. What's race got to do with this?

Race has NOTHING to do with it. The point is, if she had an affair and the child was OBVIOUSLY not his then he would still be forced to pay even with OBVIOUS results of her slutty behavior. It use to be, "you have a specific amount of time after birth to question your part. Now it's "too bad, if she has a ring on you get a bill regardless"..

If you think thats bad you should look up a UK lottery winner who had to pay his ex-wife part of the windfall even though the dirvoce had been finalised and she left 10 years ago. He was still on the hook as it was considered some sort of shared earnings between the two.

Yes this happened and no it isn't an example of British satire.

It makes it especially clear that the father was a different man. I hope for your sake you never are legally assigned responsibility for a child that is obviously not yours. However, if it is of a different race, you might want to accept is as yours, to strike a blow for social justice

No one should be a surprised that the law rewards cuckolding in a marriage in this society. This law is essentially the quintessence of communism.

I think he's just making a hypothetical scenario in which it is very clear the husband could not possibly be the father.

Any UK person knows if the marriage laws in the UK are as bad as the ones in the US or Canada?

If he A. Isn't the biological father and B. Never acted as the child's father (meaning didn't make the foolish decision of marrying a woman with children) - all he has to do is file for the divorce and prove he isn't the parent. He's not on the hook forever, just until he gets it cleared up. Maybe 6 months.

The price he pays for never getting the divorce finalized...and for marrying a bad woman in the first place.

What? You stay married to someone you're no longer with? This is the most mind-bogglingly retarded things I've ever heard in my life. This should be basis of a $30 million Hollywood comedy where the lead is played by Steve Carrell.

I'm no advocate of sharia law but sharia law when it comes to male rights in a marriage is way better than this. It's like the opposite. In sharia, women get the short end of the stick, in western societies us men get the short end as proven with this case. Ridiculous!

A guy I used to work with is still legally married to his ex. She walked out on him and their daughter over 20 years ago. Guys kept telling him to get divorced.

He's retired now and collecting his pension. He better hope and pray she never shows up or files for back support.

This guy seems kinda stupid. Check out what he did after winning the lottery:
Quote:Quote:

Mr Page, 44, a former property maintenance worker, landed Britain’s third biggest lottery win in February, when an online lucky dip ticket won him half of a £113million Euromillions prize.
He and his partner Justine Laycock, 42, celebrated by getting married shortly after the win.
