My prediction is that if the American economy ever seriously collapses it will help to put an end to the rise of the modern beta male.
While these "Marvin Milquetoast" men have always been around, it's actually the post-War economic boom and the invention of the service economy that is responsible for all of the namby pamby stuff that we see to day.
The reason is that it helped "level the playing field" by shifting the economy away from physical and manufacturing jobs which our pre-WWII grandfathers performed, to androgynous service and desk jobs; in addition to no longer engaging in testosterone boosting labor, bad diets and lack of exercise also play a part
Likewise since women are the primary shoppers and media consumers, the majority of TV commercials, daytime television, etc are oriented toward women.
So the decline of physical labor, nutrition and exercise, co-ed nature of education and the workplace, and female-oriented media all combine to create a climate which encourages effeminacy in men.
While many blame "the feminist movement" of the 1960s, it is actually only a symptom of the real problem, which is the economy itself; and contrary to the progressive myth, society has not constantly been "moving forward" since the dawn of man with less and less "oppression" as the years go by, it has fluctuated greatly throughout history based on the economy of the time.
(Many Millenials think that "more technology and science" = more progress, but this actually quite absurd, as the Nazi Germans had much more technological and scientific knowledge than the ancient Greek and Roman philosophers did but were barbaric in their cultural ideology).
The advent of female birth control and expansion of the welfare system also played a part in the rise of the 60s counter-culture and feminist movement; as there was now far less risk and incentive for women to be chaste and depend on a man to provide for her.
---
The good news however is that this service economy can't last forever - it over expanded following the Baby Boom and we are now seeing the negative effects.
If the economy ever does crash then it will be like nature hitting the "rewind button" a little.
Frivolous service and entertainment industry jobs will decline as the economy will be more in need of real, manly labor.
Colleges will no longer be able to serve as havens for "Womyn's studies" or "Marxist sociology" majors once the student loan funds try up and these sheltered kids are forced to get a real job or risk starvation.
Single mothers in da hood making a living off of having babies to increase their monthly benefits will be forced to keep their legs shut or risk real world consequences once the welfare faucet has finally dried up.
And betas and white knights will have to man up or let social Darwinism take its course; no longer will they be able to hide from reality on some My Little Pony fan fiction website when it comes knocking at their door.
If we are lucky it will be Tabula Rasa - but not a complete Escape from New York scenario; but if nothing else the masculine values of our WWII ancestors which were lost in favor of smartphones, Facebook games, and bad romantic comedies will be revived somewhat.
To me human history has not been an "upward slope" but more akin to a fluctuating wave; it's taken sharp turns for better or worse but in the end always rebalances itself, so in the end I'm optimistic about the dying state of masculinity today - there's not much further it could go so at this point, it's bound to have a rebound.
