Speed/Agility vs. Strength/Mass for combat?

Bumping this thread since it's the new sport season and everybody is going back to their training. There's so much gold in this thread don't even know where to begin. Again, special thanks to H1N1.

As an update I'm now doing HEMA, Aikido and lifting. HEMA is fucking awesome as combat sport, but it just goes to show how much what H1N1 said was true. Since it's weapon-based combat system there's no weight class. During group combat where it's free for all and not using a scoring system, I resign to the fact I'm doing this for fun and not to win. There's absolutely nothing a 135lbs guy like me can do when then 270lbs guy is charging and body slamming you. The last time I didn't get out of the way I got blasted off my feet almost to the other side of the room like a rag doll.

Oberryn vs the Mountain fight was idiotic. If it was realistic there wouldn't be a fight at all, just a massacre.

So I guess speed trumps everything because you need it to run away [Image: lol.gif]

Speed/Agility vs. Strength/Mass for combat?

I've spent more and more time in Thailand training since this thread first came about. Over a year of the last two.

I've sparred with more Lumpini champions in that time frame than I can be bothered to count...all about 130 ish.

It's like mugging a small child. Sure their skill gets the odd shot in here and there but it's almost impossible for them given I have over 100lbs and usually 9-10".

Let that sink in. Lumpini champions!

"Okay (and I'm laughing now, because this is so funny), so we're A) not supposed to give you flowers, B) pay you compliments, or C) look at you. Anything else? Because I'm struggling to figure out the reason why after hearing that, I'm feeling like I'd rather get fucked in the ass by a Cape Buffalo than ever have to sit through dinner with you. Maybe you can figure it out for me. When you do, let me know. I'll be at Natasha's house."

My oldest son started taking boxing lessons and we were doing a fair bit of sparring for a while. He hits about as half as hard as he can and I try to limit myself to match that, which basically ends up being the momentum of my arm and nothing else.

After a while he starts getting that swollen head kids get when you've had the kid gloves on for a while. "I could beat you in a fight."

"Son, boxing is not fighting."

"What do you mean."

"You want to fight?"

"Okay..."

I walk down the end of the hallway and crouch ready to charge. He's suddenly realises what having 40 kilos on someone really means.

"Nonono. Let's not do that."

A week later.

"Dad, do we have any protein powder?"

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.
