AVOID SOYLENT
12-24-2015, 09:46 PM
As some of you know, I was regularly taking this as a major part of my diet for several months.
After three and a half months I was feeling lethargic, gaining weight, losing muscle, and had a low sex drive.
I just got my testosterone results back.
I have a 230 serum level. Down from 650 this time last year.
Avoid this.
If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

I thought this was a joke (soylent green), but it looks like a meal replacement.
Soy is a phytoestrogen, so I'd expect it to lower your testosterone. I'd be curious to see your estradiol level on and off it, but it sounds like there's no way you'd go back on it. Either way, thanks for the heads up.

I regularly ate Soylent for lunch for most of the summer. During that time, I felt more energetic, lost fat, gained muscle, and noticed no change to my sex drive.
Are you absolutely sure Soylent is to blame?
Were you eating Soylent solely by itself? With Soylent, I always blend it with various fruits, leafy greens, peanut butter, and/or protein powder and make it into a smoothie.

Avoid anything soy, except very occasionally as a special treat in the case of foods you like with soy in them.

I'm on Huel which is a British vegan meal replacement drink that gets me 600 calories and 50g of protein a pop.
My BF% is now between 13-17% and I definitely see an increase in muscle definition in the mirror after 6 weeks of toning weight lifting.
I think I can still rely on Huel to underwrite the approaching bulking phase. Will check out the soy content in case it undermines my T.

OP: The main ingredient in the powder is rice protein. Soy lecithin is in the last five of something like sixty ingredients. Maybe you should consider other causes of your T decline?
Other posters: Don't let facts slow you down. Also, Grape Nuts contain neither grapes nor nuts. Discuss.

So you guy are using this stuff to meet your macros exactly with no need to count carbs, proteins etc? Do you feel sated in a similar timeframe after consumption than a regular meal?
I think I like steak too much.

Yikes.
I think the prefix "soy" in the name is a huge red flag.
There's stories on the internet of people living almost exclusively on this stuff. Anyone thinking of drinking this stuff should take a look at those people and see if they are the kind of folks you'd want to take nutrition advice from.
