Immigrating to North America through marriage

After reading the thread about oil sands and other opportunities to make money I decided to immigrate to North America, Alberta for example. I know that in Canada the spouse will be some kind of sponsor and even if you divorce shortly after it's a problem to deport you. How about finding some chubby lady just for marriage and than divorce, any risk in that?

That could quickly lead to this in your future. (Sarcasm)

Mntrsx, you might want to reconsider working in oil and gas. Have you checked the price of oil lately?

The jobs have disappeared for the most part. Instead of getting married for a green card, take a look at the job shortage list the labor department publishes. These are jobs that easily get visa clearances if you have experience. One job I know of is hydrology (study of water I geology). This is very useful for mining, oil, and gas. Though commodities are down, the regulatory BS is still there and it's a highly specialized field which can get you to travel all over the world.

Instead of marrying an American whale you could get Naturalized through military service...American military is the best in the world in terms of benefits and in training which can directly translate into the civilian world such as law enforcement, mechanics, IT, and so on. In some branches such as Air Force or Coast Guard there is little threat of being stationed in an active war zone so you just may get a "desk job". See below for more guidance:

If you can bear it, go for it.

You can immigrate to Canada as a Skilled Worker if you have the skills to work in oil and gas. Basically, if you're younger than 36, have a college degree and speak English, you can apply right now. You'll get your green card in a couple months, but in the meantime you can start looking for a job and if you're made a job offer you'll get it in a week.

I like this guy's enthusiasm and encouage him to move to Alberta, yes oil is in the shitter but there's still work out there. There is currently a labour shortage in the Rocky Mountain resort towns (Banff, Jasper, etc), they're party towns, you may not find a wife there but you'll probably catch an STD.

Are you from Ukraine?

Many guys here try to escape the West. I moved in the opposite direction.

While I would say it's worth it for getting experience, learning English and expanding your horizons, I wouldn't break the law to do it by the fake marriage route. I would't marry some land whale do it either.

If I were you, I would learn IT skills and try to get remote work, then potentially have the company sponsor me for a visa. Alternatively, you can just stay home or move to Asia doing the same thing.

If you really want to move to North America, by all means, apply for all the opportunities out there, including Canadian immigration program, US green card lottery while it still exists, and company-sponsored visas, but play by the rules.

Any thoughts on whether it's objectively better to hold a US green card through marriage, if already a citizen of the EU? I suppose the question is dependent on what industry you're in, but I'm weighing up the options. If you were hired in the US, you'd get sponsored anyway, right?

No Green Cards in Canada, that's the States. Visa only in diff categories (Visitors, Work, Immigration, Student...etc)!

I've seen guys from EE really struggle to understand American women. Even a slightly chubby girl might not always be easy for you. I wouldn't do the fake marriage thing either. The best idea I can give you to find a Ukrainian girl in US. There are quite a few in Pennsylvania and New York. Philadelphia has a small community, I meet one every once in a while, they are feminine and attractive, though receive massive attention from American guys.

If OP is Ukrainian then Alberta would be a great fit, Canada has the largest Ukrainian population in the world outside of the country. There's Ukrainian restaurants and cultural associations everywhere, in Edmonton you can enroll your kids into Ukrainian immersion schools: https://www.epsb.ca/programs/language/uk...bilingual/

Kind of.. there are over 300k people who claim Ukrainian descent in Alberta but the majority aren't REAL Ukrainians. They are mostly descendants that have adopted to Canadian culture. Similar to the original Ukrainian population that settled in lower East side of Manhattan .Today the grandchildren are typical Americans.

NYC has the largest group of Ukrainians who are either immigrants or children of immigrants that FOLLOW THE CULTURE. We have 1.6 million Russian speakers and about half of them are basically from Ukraine but they identify themselves often as Russian because they came more recently from the USSR and the big cities that are Russified (Odessa, kiev, Dnipro, etc).

You bring a Ukrainian from a large city to a community of pre Soviet Ukrainians and she will be a fish out of water. Analogy would be bringing a Ukrainian to lower East side of Manhattan. They have a museum and credit unions but they aren't REAL Ukrainians. She would fit in SheapsheadbaY OR Brighton beach better because she would be with other immigrants that have lived a Soviet and post Soviet life. Big difference than the pre Soviet ancestors or the ones that came in the 1940's and 50's who are similar to Polish(Western Ukies). Just sayin...

The stokes interview rarely happens, but that shit does happen. They interview you and your spouse separately and record the entire episode. It just depends on the bitchiness of the case officer you get that day. If it's some skinny IRT with some land whale, that will set the bells off but if the cultures are similar and whatnot...then it will be smoother.

Joining the military won't get you citizenship unless you speak some Punjab or Pashto.

There are some ads around the web from women looking to marry some Eastern European foreigners and what not.

What you could do is come to the US on a tourist visa and then get married once you're here. The entire process will take about 6 months and you will have a temp green card for 1-2 years while you prove that your marriage is real. Also, it is not necessary to get married right away, you can let your visa expire while you find a wife but that puts you at risk of getting deported anytime between that time period.

Right. The program I'm talking about grants a 3-year work visa that converts to a permanent residence (and eventually citizenship) when renewed after 3 years. I don't know what the legal term is, and it has an immigration path so I just called it a green card.

do you have a link to the program?

Anyway I didn't mean any fake marriages as some of you thought, I have a friend that would like to be my wife, she's not a whale but a little bit chubby. If we divorce in the future, will I have to pay her some kind of alimony even if we have no children? She's Canadian.
Meanwhile I stay in Ukraine but not from here.
