The recent Washington Post Date Lab is especially cringeworthy. The guy is a bit nerdy, socially "tone deaf", and perhaps trying too hard.
But the girl was disinterested from the beginning:
I worked all day ... and then ... spaced out on the subway and went past my transfer spot, so I was a bit stressed. ... I didn’t find him super attractive ... and I didn’t get that vibe.
At least he knew it:
She’s extremely beautiful — she’s a dead ringer for Rebecca de Mornay from “Risky Business.” She’s just not my type. She’s very poised, very professional. I would have preferred someone that was maybe more expressive.
Part of success is reading feedback and moving on to fertile fields. Should he have just left after appetizers, or wolfed down dinner and bolted?
