Is that really the best New York has to offer, or are the men in New York that delusional and depressed?
People are looking at this the wrong way.
A few facts first. She is the most message woman on OKCupid in NYC that agreed to appear in the article. Lets get that out of the way first.
Next everyone is wondering....why? It's actually pretty simple. The majority of photographs she uses on OKCupid are actually extremely well done for the most part compared to her female competition. She photographs well when using selfies from an iPhone and she has a 'edgy' look. (Lots of girls have that same look....Sleigh Bells lead singer..etc)
The problem is she is no where near as good looking as the majority of photos led you to believe which is evident in photos taken by the press. She's probably running into a weird situation where lots of guys are expecting this

And end up seeing this....

So she ends up on the site for a while getting her ego inflated(can't fault her) and the suitors she probably wants are too high of value. You end up in a vicious cycle. It would be like someone using ultra wide angel lens with flattering lighting to advertise a tiny studio in Manhattan. Then when people get into the apartment they realize its a little closet. Unless you lower the price people ain't buying. In her case unless she lowers her expected value from males she ain't getting a boyfriend.
