Today is Men's International Day - Nov 19

Today is Men's International Day -- and it is a day to simply reflect on the incredible accomplishments and sacrifices men have made to build this modern technological world. It is a day to celebrate man hood and to be proud and grateful.

Wishing all the brothers on this forum peace, well being and happiness.

Would it be gender-neutral if we made it into a Hallmark Holiday?

I've never heard of it. I'm sure there's a reason for that...

Why?

Other men's accomplishments are not our own.

We can and should be proud of what we achieve, our families build and our friends and associates accomplish.

However, one shouldn't bask in the reflected glow of others lives, hoping the sheen of greater men rubs off on oneself.

This bothers me greatly, perhaps I should do a writeup for ROK.

Yeah, fuck that noise (is that an already outdated expression by the way? net years really are dog years, jeez).

Men are not penguins or dandelions, and we don't need a special day to "celebrate" or "reflect" on jack.

We never been about that, never ever been about playing no shit.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

A Google news search shows at least one university has banned Men's International Day - Nov 19 - York University in the UK. In the news a lot of mockery is being made which was all expected. Paul Elam gives a interesting perspective on IMD -http://www.avoiceformen.com/a-voice-for-men/an-imd-celebration-with-a-caution/

It really just another factor that shows what men are up against. When women started Women's International Day, they also had similar mockery. But now they are taken dead serious. Hence men need also to stick with IMD for the long run for it to have real impact. For now the mockery will continue.

Here's NCFM's Facebook post about it:

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY! I hope you enjoyed the parades, all the celebrations, and people stopping you on the street thanking you for all you do! For those of you who do not think men should be thanked for all they do please get out of your chair, walk outside, and look around. What do you see that men built? Yes, that’s right, almost everything – your house or apartment building, office buildings, hospitals, hotels, and all other buildings; the streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, electrical systems, heavy equipment, ships… the list is endless including all the buildings, grounds, and utility systems at the University of York, the University that just banned International Men’s Day from their campus.

The university intended to support IMD, which focuses on men’s and boy’s health, gender relations, gender equality, and positive male role models. All good things targeted at making the world a better place for all of us, even the 200 or so York University students and staff members who got their panties in a bunch because someone suggested doing something good for men.
It is hard to put all that in proper perspective. The best I can think to say...the 200 or so York University students and staff are ignorant, indoctrinated, lack critical thinking skills, are hate filled misandrists, or all of that, and just plain evil. They too should look around. Were it not for men they would be standing in an empty field perhaps knee deep in steaming cow paddies with nothing to do but praise each other for their omnipotent righteous ways.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Glenn Poole, Director of Helping Men United, for his plea to the protesters to find some compassion in their hearts when he asked if their actions would help or hinder men coming forward who were considering suicide. Apparently, the protestors have no heart from which compassion may come having been replaced by myopic arrogance.

Stand tall my friends. It takes all good-hearted people to make the world a better place for all of us, not just women or the idiots that may believe otherwise. Again, Happy International Men’s Day!

Just dam. But in a way, it is only going to unite men more I think as men begin to see what they are up against.
