The issue with Milo is that, as the Playboy article shows, he is in it for the money and fame. That's fine, but why would people risk showing up at rallies for him where they might get arrested or injured? Some will just see it as a joke. Possibly, though objecting to selfie activism isn't the same as objecting to direct political action.

Because one of the main problems of this free speech rally was that it came so soon after the Ben Shapiro Big Deal, and everyone was dealing with pageant/kabuki fatigue.
