As part of an ongoing effort to become location independent, I am looking into Elance as a source of income. I read "How To Find Jobs and Make Money On Elance" by Sam Page last night, which was a good overview on how Elance works and how to get clients and jobs effectively, however, I thought I'd see if anyone on the forum has any experience with Elance and any insight to offer.

I work in video post production (editing, etc.), which is almost entirely freelance now (most gigs last 6 months tops) and is fast becoming a location independent profession. It isn't entirely there yet, due to the size of the files involved and the prevalence of large facilities still, but it will be there soon and I want to be ready when it does.

Elance is going to be turning to a new company called "Upwork" soon. I worked extensively with Elance as someone who hired talent for various jobs and projects. I never did hire anyone for video work, but I did inquire on Elance for bids on a project I was working on, but decided to hire someone through referrals.

You might want to try out Fiverr as well if you want to do a lot of volume jobs that can be done quickly.
