How to monetize knowing more than one language?

So honest question here, I'm learning Spanish, living in (western) Canada. I don't think speaking Spanish in Canada period is terribly lucrative, but that's not why I'm learning it. French can be good for doing business in Quebec, or for meeting language requirements for Federal Government jobs.

I'm curious about the guys here who've learned language for their travels and gaming women, have you been able to monetize your knowledge of other languages?

Any success, minor or otherwise would be interesting to know, as well as which language.

Knowing a language does not lead to direct monetization in itself, but helps in terms of the connections you can establish and it also makes you stand out. How you leverage it from there all depends on you.

Also, you need to reach a very strong level of ability (fluency) before you will really see benefits like this.

I know a few business owners and some small-time actors/models who never would have made the proper connections without being fluent in Korean/Chinese. In their case, language was absolutely essential to their business/career.

Here is an interesting example of how one guy used language to directly monetize. Dude has 810k followers on Facebook (which is a LOT, because korean people don't use facebook as much) and makes a ton from youtube sponsorships and ads. All he did was make funny youtube videos of himself speaking Korean and comparing cultural differences between Korea and British culture. Not to mention the fact that he is a mainstream celebrity at this point. I can only imagine how many hot korean girls he is banging.

You could find work as a translator. Whereas XYZ <-> English language pairs are dime a dozen, the Spanish <-> French combo might be more lucrative as there are far less people speaking it on a high/native level.

Very good question. I speak three languages fluently (including my mother tongue). Another two at conversational level. Was never very good at subjects like Mathematics etc which are perhaps more obviously "monetizeable". For the last year or so I've dabbled with working as a freelance copywriter and translator online (lack of discipline and some health issues are the reasons I don't do it more systematically).

What I have really thought about recently and something that I think I actually will do now is starting a game website, much like Roosh's. One of the products I though I could put out is my own kind of Bang series, though with more focus on stories, cultural differences and LTRs than just getting bangs. I could do a "Bang France", "Bang Italy" and "Bang Spain" etc. So indirectly I'd be using my Spanish and other languages to game girls in Spain and then writing a book about it. (Even though I've lived and travelled several times in Latin America I don't think I would want to write about that region - game is completely different there plus I don't want to help spread Western culture. Also, there are probably more guys and thus prospective customers traveling around Europe).

Other than that I've thought about getting into import/export between Latin America and Europe.

I remember thinking doing like the Korean Englishman mentioned above too - becoming a youtube personality. Though I was thinking of doing it for the girls, never occurred to me that it could be way to make any significant amount of money.

Other than working in related fields, languages put you ahead of the competition in most jobs. You will have more chances of getting jobs and being promoted with languages.
In my case, in most of the jobs I've had in my life, I was hired because of the languages, including my current job.

If you specialise in some field you can make money translating as your average language student is not familiar with the specific technical words and jargon used.

If I ever decide to take up another language it will be Mandarin purely for business purposes as I'm qualified and interested in product development.

A lot of customer service jobs in call centres require you to be fluent in several languages. There's many of them in Kraków and Wroclaw and depending on your language combination you can earn up to 1500 euro a month, which is a pretty good salary in Poland. Speakers of German and Scandinavian languages generally earn the most from what I've heard. I've met some people working these kind of jobs and it seems like a decent gig, I don't think I'd mind doing something similar for some time and it's a good way of relocating to Poland.

It increases your opportunity for expat jobs substantially especially if you are well educated.

I've had a few offers to work in Cuba which is one of the hardest places in the world for a non-citizen to get a well-paying job due to my spanish language skills + education + familiarity there. Right now though my interest is to stay here for several more years and focus on gaining experience + building my investment portfolio.

Language is one piece of the puzzle and probably in my case a difference maker.
