Sao Paulo Data Sheet April 2015 and June 2015
Hi guys. Long time reader here; finally glad to be able to contribute back with my first data sheet. I will try to break it down by day, but at this point the trip is kinda a blur. Also, I am getting ready to go back in a couple of weeks ☺. I speak NO portuguese but I speak decent Spanish from classes in high school. I have been to SP twice so far.
Background: In my late 20s, athletic, and Mediterranean look (Italian). In other words, blended well (sometimes so well that girls would look at my phone to see my convos in English because they thought I was Brazilian). Didn’t really have a set daily budget, and went there with a “I’m on vaca” mood. Some days I spent more, others less. Had a couple of friends in SP, but one in particular knew several “hot spots,” and definitely helped me close on several occasions (i.e. social circle that is described in the forum is definitely a real thing here in SP)
Time spent: 10 days in April, 8 days in June.
Location: I stayed in Jardins and rotated through the “top 5” hotels (as listed on TripAdvisor) in the City. When traveling I like staying at nice hotels, but mostly because hotels are a personal interest of mine. It did also add some social status on my days I was out solo.
The Spots Visited
Tuesday-Santo Grao on Oscar Freire. I guess it was some sort of Holiday so there were quite a few people. I was with my friend. I learned this place gets busy with people before they go out for dinner (SP dinners are late….) and stays busy until close. It is a coffee shop that serves alcohol as well. Lunchtime is also fairly busy. Started talking to a girl sitting next to me who was with her friend. My friend started talking to her, and 4 hours later we were partying back in my hotel. A fantastic start in SP, which obviously gave me huge confidence. ADVICE: Use this place for day-gaming, a meetup place with a newly found friend, or a place to meet people.
Wednesday-Villa Mix-Sertaneja Night. Villa Mix. Villa Mix. OMFG Villa Mix. I still dream about this place. I went here solo, and at first just got regular entrance. Then I saw the talent in the VIP area and went back to buy the bracelet for VIP. So worth it. For me, sertaneja (Brazilian country music) is something new, so I loved it. I met a fitness model who loved practicing her English with me. Also she was impressed with my dancing skills, which is a huge bonus in the clubs I noticed. ADVICE: Get the VIP bracelet, and if you can’t close here then….. :-(
Thursday-D-Edge. As if things couldn’t get better, they did. This is a “must visit” place, if not for the crowd, then for the music. I remember at one point a girl coming up to talk to me when I was dancing in front of the DJ and me pushing her away because I was so much in the moment with the music. Thursdays I think are the best night here. While the talent is good here, the music is better. At around 5am I went around the corner to what looked like a convenience store that sold alcohol and that had a decently sized crowd there. Met a cool hipster chick there that lived not too far from my hotel. ADVICE: Go here for the music first, and hunting second…
Thursday and Friday: I rotated through Bar Numero, Alucci Alucci, Baretto, and Paris 6. These two nights I was on double “dates” with my friend, so didn’t do much searching. However, the point here is all these places have great talent and lots of options. ADVICE: Go to these places to check them out. You never know what you might find. Bar Numero in particular has a lounge set up on the first floor, and a club like atmosphere in the basement. This alone should have alpha minds whirling…
Saturday-Rooftop Bar at Hotel Unique, followed by D-Edge, followed by Love Story. The Unique rooftop is definitely a cool scene for a drink before dinner. The big CON for me was it was full of tourists, many from the States. Sorry, I didn’t travel 5000 miles to see my neighbor. Also, know that this place is full of garotas de PROgramaS (good phrase to learn) if that is your cup of tea (not mine). Left to go to D-Edge at 1am. Rooftop of D-Edge was open, which is a great place to get your talk on. At 5am I went to Love Story. Lots of PROs there also, but awesome atmosphere, and you know what you are getting yourself into. ADVICE: None.
Sunday-DISCO. Another cool place (think Edge but smaller and less chaotic). Interestingly, upon first glance, I thought it was a typical “industry” crowd based on attire and the groups of circles (not really my crowd). However, when I started talking next thing I know I am dancing with an orthodontist and a judge. This is another venue where if you can dance, you are a made man. ADVICE: Don’t judge the miniskirt. You are not in Kansas, baby.
Tuesday-Royal Club. Brazilian favela music night with Sany Pitbull. Wasn’t a huge fan of the venue but YMMV. It was also the birthday of some Playboy model, so I think that also brought on a very industry-esque crowd. A gold mine if this is your scene. Advice: Do a quick google search before you visit a club to see if that is the crowd you want to rub elbows in.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience. Great food, great drinks, great people. Got to meet Ringo from this forum-->Solid dude with lots of wisdom. If could do it over again, I would day game more at the mall, and be more spontaneous (i.e. less planning evenings, etc). With that being said, I am going to do just that when I return next month.
