My opinion is that Italian women today are similar to American women, with the exception of small towns in Southern Italy,which are abit moreconservative about martriage.
I think the difference is more between generations than nationalities. Our grandparents dealt with conflict and expected to put in and take out, not just one person taking and giving nothing. Maybe it's because back then being ahousewife was real work (washing dishes and clothes by hand, washing cloth diapers) and not just being a trophy wife and going shopping while the kids are left to watch TV or play video games.
