This topic makes me glad I never had a clue about how to pursue a finance career as a student. It makes me wonder what has become of some of the people whom I graduated with and work for some of these big firms (Deutschbank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, etc.) now.

Guy is an asshole and an idiot. Showed poor judgment and made his employer look bad. Of course they should have fired him. There are hundreds of guys who could do his job.

Are we on the same planet? That e-mail was milquetoast and essentially cliche. You think that obviously humorous message was poor judgment?

Milquetoast to put in writing through an official company e-mail system that they'll be expected to work ludicrously long hours with references to sleeping at their desks?

Any company wanting to survive is not going to let that go lightly considering the heap of trouble they can get in labor law-wise.

Jeezus, the guy tried and failed to make a humorous email about life in finance to newbies and is fired..

I think a lot of you in this thread are missing the point. Finance is fucking cutthroat, make the sale, make the deal, always be closing mentality type of job. This guy was making a joke of it and gets canned. It's a shame.

Go try sales or finance sometime, this guy sounds like a lovely person in comparison to the real people you'll deal with.

Free country. No one forced him to enter such a cutthroat working environment. On the bright side, maybe now he can go into the trades or be a Costco's baker or something. Do something meaningful instead of being another finance leech.
