I might just buy a plane ticket to Japan and see what happens

It's hilarious that someone would rant about the other type of people that go to Thailand then state their favourite spot was Pattaya aka a sex tourist resort and a complete dump. There's nothing nice about it, it's where all the seediest people that visit Thailand go, it's about as far away from being authentic Thai as you can get and it's dull as fuck unless you're interested in bar girls and shit generic neon lit bars.

At least most of the backpackers who go actually explore the country instead of just heading straight to a beach resort to chase whores.

Read WAS one of my favorite spots. I was traveling to Thailand in the mid-90s for my job and we operated out of Pattaya. Got certified in various diving specialties, speed go kart racing. Well before all the Euro-trash invaded the place. It's funny how some people think only of prostitution when they think of Thailand. Thailand has so much to offer, even Pattaya back in the 90s before the Euro-trash invasion. Bangkok has some nice spots too. The majority of Thai women are traditional. Anyone who assumes that Thailand is only for sex tourist displays their ignorance of the country and has not ventured beyond the pay for play scene.

Backpacker who actually hike and explore are no problem with me. Those who want to smoke pot across the country are a problem for me. I'm not going to judge anyone's lifestyle choice but I prefer not to be around the trash.

Oh, try telling the Defense Attache's and advisors and their civilian counterparts who are assigned to Pattaya that they are whore mongerers. They have access to a Thai women that the average male tourist to Thailand can only dream about.

Pattaya got it's start due to U-taphao Air Base located just south of Pattaya. It was a B-52 base during the Vietnam war and the beaches of Pattaya was a R&R spot for GIs in Vietnam. That's what attracted the business which has blossomed into what it is today. Try visiting Sisaket and Rayong just outside of Pattaya.

Bottom line, Thailand is much cheaper than Japan. Japan is NOT a destination for anyone wanted to backpac from Hokkaido to Okinawa nor a depraved sex tourist nor those who like to jump to conclusions about other people.

I know Thailand has much more than prostitution because I've been there, spent lots of time and travelled around the country on various different occassions and loved every second of it and have yet to pay to have sex. Incredible country with lots to offer, Pattaya isn't one of those incredible places and it has next to nothing to offer, unless you are a sex tourist.

Most backpackers don't go to Thailand to smoke pot, sure some have a few joints when there and there's nothing wrong with that anyway (drugs should not be illegal especially ones that grow in the ground) but very few solely go there to get stoned because weed isn't *that* easy to get (compared to neighbouring countries) and the penalties are harsh if you get caught. I'd rather be around a bunch of stoners than a bunch of sex tourists any day of the week though.

Interesting conversation about Thailand.

Yea I guess I'm a dunce for missing the whole Japan is advanced thing.

I'm most likely not going to be doing this -- was more a mental epiphany than anything. I mean I COULD go buy a plane ticket and go somewhere -- something that never dawned on me as an option. Obviously I should put more thinking into it if I do decide to undertake such an outing.

As far as backpacking Japan goes, http://onemanwalking.com/. This guy did it but he had previous hiking/backpacking experience. Definitely not a newbie.

first i think you should read my book, black passenger yellow cabs: a memoir of exile and excess in japan and 2nd, i think you should stay in school and finish your 4yr degree in any discipline. that way you can get a job teaching english here. its piss easy. a job teaching english here in japan will afford you the opportunity of traveling throughout asia. trust me, ive been living in japan for ten years. amazing place. which is why i just had to write a book about it.

Blackpassenger,
Welcome on board man! It's such a great thing to have you here man. I read, or rather, devoured your book in 2 days, that's how awesome it is. Not only it is hilarious, I love how you refer to "knowing a woman biblically" hilarious stuff man! But it also provides an awesome isnight into the complex J culture and why they are so socially different (for not saying incompetent). I've travelled all around the world but no place blew my mind like Tokyo. I am taking Japanese class this semester at a local college and my plan is to make it to Nihon within a year or so. Are you still in Japan?

Anyone in here thinking about going to Japan, MUST read his book, Black Passenger, yellow cabs. I mentioned it before on this forum and I'm reiterating it again: it's a must read for anyone interested in knowing more about the Japanese psyche and have a good overview of how things are for gaijins (foreigners and especially for Black guys). I think I'm going to re-read it again as I am bored and terribly miss Japan.

Welcome again to the board man and hoping to see you dropping some pure gold nuggets of intel about J-women, swooping them and life in general in Japan.

Gringo,
If you can, do it man. Japan is am incredible country. IMO, the most amazing in the world bar none. If you're serious about going there, I'd suggest enroll in a local college near you in a Japanese class. Even after 1 semester, you'd be able to say basic stuffs and that will do a ton of difference to your experience in Japan. I wish I had known some Japanese when I went to Tokyo in Feb. Now, after 1 month of Japanese, I can already say basic stuff, ask directions and order stuff. While it may not be much, it will make things vastly better for me and above all, have the Japanese people respect me/you so much better even if you speak a little J. Not to mention that not only your opportunities will be inifintely increased when it comes to meeting J girls but the quality of girls that you'd be able to approach/get will be way higher than if you didn't speak any japanese.

Oh and pick up a copy of blackpassenger, yellow cabs. [Image: wink.gif]

Holy ****, he's here!

I just bought your book as well and it was one of the best decisions I've made-fantastic read. I really hope you decide to stick around and drop some knowledge on Japan, bro. You'd be an asset to the community.

And to the OP(Docter) and anyone else with this idea: http://www.blackpassenger.com/purchase.php

Buy it! Indispensable knowledge divulged within.

Hey blackpassenger, if that is really you!

Regardless, I did pick up his book before I even read this. (I also picked up both Max Danger books, Memories of Silk and Straw, and The Road to Sata. All great so far).

I do recommend reading these books as my perception of Japan has been incredibly shaped from these resources. BP/YC is the best by far. It is a travelogue going head to head with Tucker Max while sipping on wine discussing the intricacies of Japanese culture.

The analogy sucks but the book rocks.

And damn, I'm an idiot for thinking Japan wasn't developed. When the fuck did I miss that memo.

Thanks for recommending the book bro, I cannot thank you enough. I just got this book and it is blowing my mind. Being a black man with an on-and-off yellow fever fetish, this book is paradise to my eyes. I have come to the conclusion that I have to visit Japan before I die. Great read.

JofSuperman,
welcome on board man. Yeah Japan is a must must must visit place not only fo the women who are absolutely gorgeous (among the top 3 most beautiful, feminine, sexy and fashionable in the world) but also the country as a whole. No country is like Japan, perfectly marrying and mixing the old traditions with the upper modern that make Manhattan look like a 3rd world city. Just be warned, once you go to J-land, you will be a different man and will have a hard time returning to white western women. [Image: wink.gif]
