Uptown Dallas Datapoint

Disclaimers:

1) I was only in Uptown Dallas for 2 nights in December. I do not claim that this is a definitive datasheet. My game is at best mediocre, so I was not able to get anything more than conversations, plus my second night was very quiet. My personal impressions and opinions will heavily flavor this entry and I will be happy to admit that I am not correct. Hence why I call it a datapoint, not a datasheet. As far as I can tell, the forum is lacking a proper Dallas Datasheet.

Here are the substantive Dallas forum posts that I could find:
Mixx does Dallas....
Dallas or Houston?
Dallas or Houston?
Nashville , Dallas area, or Charleston SC ?

2) I was only in Uptown & Downtown Dallas. I did not get a chance to explore the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex. The DFW metro area is gigantic. I only saw a small sliver. For all I know, things change dramatically for the better or the worse by the time you hit places like Arlington and Plano or even half way to Love Field Airport.

3) What is uptown Dallas? As far as I can tell, it's the part of Central Dallas that is North of 366, West of US 75, and East of Turtle Creek Blvd, to the north and west of the center of Dallas.

google map of Uptown Dallas

This is not Downtown Dallas, which looked to me like a Monday to Friday 9 to 5 ghetto just south of 366.

TL;DR Version:
While Uptown Dallas girls are often very slender and generally brunette white girls (saw very few blondes) or latinas with nice faces for North America, I cannot say I saw any stunning beauties (I did not a see a single 8.5+) during my two night visit, plus there is a significant amount of fat uglies. That being said, by Northeast Coast, Northwest Coast, and Toronto-Occupied-Ontario standards they have nice attitudes, take care of themselves, and present themselves well. However, others on the forum have stated that the have bad attitudes at least in comparison to other girls from the region. On the plus side, the competition is not worth worrying about and the cost of living, business friendly economy, and infrastructure (especially transportation to other cities in America, Latin America, and to a lesser extent to cities in East Asia and Eastern Europe), make Dallas appear to be a great place to move to in order to improve ones cash flow, to get better access to women, and to begin to establish an international player lifestyle.

The Only Part that Anyone Is Really Interested In:

Girls:

They are very good but not great.

I mostly saw white girls and latinas who were certainly more slender and prettier than what I am used to in DC and when I visit Ontario. Montreal girls definitely have them beat.

Faces:
Very good but not great. While I saw plenty of cute girls, I can't say that I saw any girl with a face above a 8. Most of the girls I saw were white or latina.

Bodies:
Nice by general US and Ontario standards. Uptown Dallas girls take care of themselves and dress to impress. Fatties were refreshingly relatively low by American and Toronto-Occupied-Ontario standards, but not compared to other places in the world. It is still the US.

Other Physical Characteristics:
For all of the talk that I've hear about Texas blondes, I saw very few, even if you exclude Latinas. This surprised me. If she has to be blonde Dallas might not be the place for you.
Dallas girls dress well and take care of their appearance for North America, but not as well as Montreal girls.

Attitudes:
Very friendly by DC and Toronto standards. I got a surprisingly good attitude and IOIs that I did not expect, especially given what I had heard from the forum. However, I do think that they expect you to dress up a bit. Not much, though. Nice slacks, button down shirt, and leather shoes in good condition are probably enough

The Fugglies:
There are definitely a non-trival amount of fat chicks who for some reason all look like Lindy West with brown hair.

The Competition:
It's much less than I feared. Maybe JR Ewing and negative reports on the forum clouded by judgement, but I thought that I would be fighting against suited up, stetson wearing, ripped, 6'5" Oil Rich Cowboys with razor sharp game, sly Southern Gentleman charm, and throwing around cash like there was no tomorrow. I mostly saw lots of very average guys, many of whom I wondered if they were hipsters (Brosemite calls them yupsters), with very pretty (but again, not stunning) girlfriends.

I found the competition was nothing to worry about. If you go out to game, just dress up a bit and have a friendly attitude. For me, my usual attire flat front slacks and a nice pastel button down shirt w/black leather shoes is enough except for maybe Hotel ZaZa - I didn't go in so I wasn't sure.

Where to find the girls:
The main stretches of bars in Uptown Dallas that I found were Cedar Springs Road between Maple Avenue & Routh Street, Routh Street between Cedar Springs Road and McKinney Avenue, and McKinney avenue between N Pearl Street and Clyde Lane. While asking casually, I was assured by two guys that Uptown Dallas is the main night scene in Dallas. They said that there were other places, but that all of them were smaller.

Cedar Springs Road (bars with a more clubby vibe to them):
Kung Fu, Concrete Cowboy, and Nick & Sams Grill - This is where I saw the best talent. All had long bars where if one wanted to play long bar game. On a warm night, it looked like a very good place to be.

McKinnley Ave (more casual bars except for the hotel ZaZa):
The bars on McKinnley are good to, but not as good as what I saw on Cedar Springs. Again, if one rolls solo and wants to play long bar game or go in groups and mingle, that looked like a good possibility on a warm night.

Maybe not for approaching, but the sites:
The Katy Bike trail. This is an old railroad that they have turned into a bike trail that goes from the border of Uptown & Downtown Dallas to Southern Methodist University. This is an absolute must to jog on a nice Saturday if you are going to decide if Dallas is worth it. I was surprised at the level of fitness of the girls for the US, who ran at an excellent pace and had the bodies to show for it. That being said, again, expect a basic level of American fatties.

The importance of the weather:
Friday was very impressive once I found Cedar Springs. Lots of slender 6s & 7s who were well dressed in very pleasant 60 degree weather. Unfortunately, I was exhausted from work, disoriented by being in a new city, and an a hour ahead due to jet lag, so I decided to try my luck the next day.
Saturday night was in the 50s. It was like a there had been a plague. There were far less people out. Everywhere I went was quiet. I suspect the reason was that while the quality of construction of most buildings appeared high, the bars in Uptown are built for serving hundreds at once when the daily high is 110 F. As a result, if it falls below 65, they get very drafty and uncomfortable.

Southern Belles and Lovely Latinas do not appear to like the cold, so if you are going out make sure it is above 65 degrees. Honestly, I did not blame those ladies. The chilly drafts got so annoying on Saturday night I wrapped things up at 11:15 and chose my bar to watch the NFL on Sunday strictly on the grounds on how well insulated it was.

Boring but Important Stuff:

Getting There:

Love Field - the Wright Amendment has finally been mostly repealed. In December 2014 at least, Southwest was aggressively trying to get people to use Love Field. I flew to Dallas from DC National Airport round trip for $137.

Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW) - It's the hub of American Airlines. It's much farther away though from central Dallas. If you intend to go to central Dallas and can fly domestic, go to Love. If you're coming from overseas, you will be stuck with DFW. It's not the greatest mega airport in the world, but it's hardly the worst either. There appear to be OK but not great rail connections to the airport.

Getting Around:
Uber is cheap in Dallas. There is no base fair and the only restriction is a $5 minimum (meaning if your fare was $3.75 they round it up to $5). The only catch is UberX does not appear to be allowed to pick up from Love Field, but only deliver. Uber Black was $31 for a six mile ride in that case. Going to Love with UberX was under $10 all included in a better car.
I would generally not bother with public transport. Buses are few and far between. There is a light rail but it did not seem to go anywhere you want to go except DFW. I guess it or Amtrak might be worth it to get you to and from DFW in rush hour.

Places to Stay:
This part frankly sucks a bit. There are not many hotels and most of them are very expensive. I was not able to find a good place on AirBNB. I ended up in a hotel called the Uptown Hyatt that while clean, quiet, rodent free, and with surprisingly large rooms badly needed renovations and provided mediocre logistics for $150 a night.

Food:
Uptown Dallas has good food. The prices in uptown were only slightly less than DC. The Beef Brisket, Fried Okra, and Enchiladas are terrific. I sadly could not find Texas Chili served at any of the places that I went to.

Drink:
Drinks were standard fare and standard prices for a major US city, though the Margaritas cost about 20% less than DC.

Some notes about the character of Dallas:

The vibe:

Dallas is the most positive place that I have ever visited, and I've visited quite a few places (20+ states, 4 Canadian provinces, 22 countries). While I have visited places just as friendly, people really seem to have hope for the future in Dallas. This was a nice feeling.

The setting:

The city is almost completely post 60s modern. Downtown & Uptown Dallas look strikingly like the parts of DC metro area (where I am from) built since the late 70s except 10 times the size in both height and area. It has lots of nice trees. It is not the swampy or arid part of Texas.

Cost of Living:

I was assured by a guy from Boston (a city about as expensive as DC) that your dollar goes much farther in Dallas than many other comparable American cities. Everything I saw and researched indicated the same.

The Possibilities for Game With Inter City Transport:

Dallas' low cost of living is accompanied by excellent highways and two gigantic airports, which I suspect would make it a very good place for an aspiring playboy. Other major US cities with airports with lots of direct flights to Latin America, EE, and SEA tend to cost much more.

Dallas-Fort Worth Airport

Again, It's the hub American Airlines. Again, It's one of the largest and busiest airports in the United States. Most importantly, it has direct flights to Bogota, Sao Paulo (The Rio one is ending soon sadly), and many other Latin American cities. While not so great for the Poosy Paradies of SE Asia and EE, it still has direct flights to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Dubai (Emirates flies to a lot of places), Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris. If Latinas are your thing and you don't have quite what you need to expat yet, Dallas looks like an ideal place to set up a home base, and not that bad for EE & SEA either.

Love Field:

As well, no where in the lower 48 states is much more than 3 hours away. And now they have to fight with Southwest for business from Love Field! While Love Field only has Domestic flights, it has a more convenient location and competitive prices thanks to Southwest. Weekend trips to check out US cities to game in like New York, Chicago, SoCal, FL, Atlanta, etc... should be realistic to save for.

So should you go?:

Should you visit to party?:

My feeling is that you should probably not. There are better places to go in the USA. Unless you are visiting someone you know or can write it off as a business trip, going to Dallas to game is probably not worth your time unless you are in driving distance. It's difficult to get reasonable price accommodations that provide good logistics and the girls, who do have a good attitude and are slender compared to most places in North America, aren't quite impressive enough to justify the time and expense.

Should you consider moving there?:

Immigration is not tourism. If you are a US Citizen or can easily get work permits for the USA, yes, I think that you should. However, it should not be the only place you consider. It struck me that Dallas will allow you to work on creating an location independent income stream with a reasonable cost of living in the most business friendly state in a city not completely hooked on oil or other commodities in the largest Economy in the world (not quite buying that China is truly bigger than the US ... yet), while being able to practice game with women who, while not ideal, are worth your time. Yes, the rent around the bars is very high, but my searches on craig list indicated that it does go down the farther you get away from Uptown and Highland Park. With under $10 bucks on Uber to Love Field, while you may not have the best logistics, you can probably get reasonable rent and still game.
That being said, there are other places in the American SE & Breadbasket (N Tx to ND) where you should also kick the tires before committing. Even in the area, Fort Worth, on the other side of the airports, comes highly recommended on the forum. In addition, DFW Airport provides an uncommon opportunity for overseas gaming, especially in Latin America.

Conclusion:
I felt that Uptown Dallas demonstrates what is still possible in Dixie (US SE or former Confederacy) and the lower Breadbasket (Middle Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska). The girls are, while not 9s and 10s, attractive and approachable, the cost of living is at worst decent, the region is business friendly with a good and diversified job market, and you have a better chance of amassing the resources to expat to Latin America, EE or SEA while being able to take short trips to check them out. If Dallas is where all the bitchy and impossible girls are by regional standards, I can't wait to visit the place where the locals consider the girls to have a good attitude.

Nice. I can vouch for cost of living/quality of life benefits. Really business friendly and you can amass a fortune while getting easy international flights from DFW. Girls are friendly compared to Northeast standards, but by southern standards they can be a bit stuck up.

Your venue review was comprehensive but left out Lower Greenville Ave. It's a hipster area but hipsters here aren't the same breed as up north. They're pretty normal and approachable in Dallas. Other places I've been hitting lately:

The Kennedy in uptown - frat boys and typical Uptown girls. Probably won't go back.
Trulocks - yes, really. There's a dress code but the bar is cool with lots of out of towners
New place downtown called Mitchell: Swanky old school masculine bar. Hemingway would like it. I was here earlier tonight.

Light rail does go some good places: Mockingbird Station has bars, movie theatre and a comedy club. White Rock Lake is good for biking/jogging/day game. Downtown Plano has a buzz and there are great BBQ places and bars near the station. There's also a station in Deep Ellum which is the live music mecca of the southeast. Again, lots of hipster chicks but they're still pretty cool.

Anecdotally, I've been opened/approached by more girls in Dallas during the last year than all the years I spent in the northeast - this is saying something as I'm not exactly an approachable/friendly looking dude.

Will write more another time, but good report man.

Uptown Dallas is an area that has changed drastically.

2004-2011 - Definitely more stuck up. More true young professionals, cougars, and those stereotypical 30K millionaires. Blowouts were exponentially harsher though numbers actually lead to dates not to mention pulling was more feasible.

2012-present day 2015 - Scene changed drastically. Girls more approachable, but harder to crack personal space. #s lead nowhere while demographic became new entry level chicks who only hung out with friends/mutual friends looking to relive their past college days. If they're prepared to get married before 26, it'll likely lead in divorce sometime in their 30s. If they're still single after 26, that's when chicks branch out more & open towards males outside their social circles.

Revived Lower Greenvile, North Oak Cliff, Henderson Street, and other odd spots scattered around the city are better.

Will most likely be going to Dallas in August/September and had a couple questions if anyone can answer:

1. Drink prices in Uptown and Downtown?

2. Better nightlife Uptown or Downtown?

3. Is Dallas 2am or is there an after-hours scene? This is huge..

Thanks.
