Just be aware, it takes 10 to 11 weeks for sperm to be produced -- so plan accordingly, says Amos Grunebaum, MD, director of clinical maternal-fetal medicine at the New York Hospital-Cornell Weill Medical College.

"You can't just wear boxer shorts the night before romantic date, and expect it to work," he tells WebMD. "Anything you do that damages sperm will affect them for the next 10 to 11 weeks."

Optimizing Testes

To keep testes at optimal temperature:

Don't wear tight pants -- particularly during sports activities. Wear loose clothing, especially if you sit for long periods of time.
Wear boxer shorts at all times. "Of course, they just don't work under tight pants," says Grunebaum.
Stay away from saunas and hot tubs.
Another tip: When you're at home, take off your pants, says Grunebaum who is also medical director of the WebMD Fertility Center. "It will not only help reduce testes temperature, but it might also turn her on."

I think more important issue here is ball health. If your balls aren't in the right environment to produce sperm the way they are meant to, do you think they're in an overall healthy situation?

I agree with Tuthmosis but perhaps the answer is simply a matter of ego. It's a very satisfying feeling when you're able to freak a girl out by giving her face a massive hot shower. If you can avoid pregnancy just by using common sense, why limit your nature-given reproductive potential, even if you do not intend to use it in the future. Just my 2 cents.

Thankfully, no. I go back and forth on having kids some time in the distant future (to further my gangster-ass genes). Sometimes I think I'd rather have 100 kids or no kids. You know what I mean?

It doesn't. Almost all of the volume of semen comes from seminal fluid and various proteins rather than actual sperm cells. Even if you have no swimmers to speak of you can still bust like a champ.

Interesting. In that case the main factor would be nutrition and general health condition and boxers/briefs would have little or no part to play.

Agreed. I would still say keep the options open. You may hit 40 plus and decide to further your genes and then you are there firing blanks into your bonafide.
