I think the thing to watch out for is inconsistencies. If you haven't gamed a girl but she's fawning all over you like you have - be careful. Doesn't mean you shouldn't follow through but just have your eyes and ears open and maybe don't invite her back to your place. It's the same thing with business deals, if someone offers you in on a deal without you having demonstrated what you bring to the table you should probably take a very close look before signing anything.
I don't run into scammers that often but I did in New Orleans once. I was taking an elevator down from my hotel room to the bar to grab a drink. A group of smoking hot girls get on the elevator. One of them (legit 9) leans into me, looks into my eyes, then starts making out with me. They invite me to join them at their table so I obliged. Something didn't seem right, but I hung in there for a bit. I didn't order anything but sat with them and shot the shit. The girls got up to go use the bathroom... and never came back. The server came and dropped me the check - I told her I was just a passer by and hadn't ordered anything. She said, you're right sir, and then went off to go chase down the girls. I bet those chicks pull that shit every weekend and most dudes end up picking up the tab. Great way to dine and dash without getting banned from places.
