Most rappers grew up with Nation of Islam and 5%'er teachings being in their community. Many of these guys grew up in the hood when it was still a wasteland ghetto due to government manipulation and egregious poilcies towards drugs and incarceration.

The power structure for them was 98% white, and the teachings of the NOI states that white folks are aliens or something from Yakub or some shit. So its not hard to see it show up in thier work as they grew up.

That list isn't filled with degenerates like Lil B, or new dudes like 2 Chainz. That list is mostly of dudes who came up in the 80s or 90s who are a distinct generation that would of been exposed to all the stuff I noted above.

It doesn't make it any more credible in a literal sense, but a lot of religions blend the earthly and the cosmological in this way (the Old Testament makes much of it in terms of the relations between the Jews and the Egyptians and Babylonians). Rellgions, like art, have a tendency to "afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted." I think this reflects something about the creative impulse.

I rarely listen to rap because of the philosophy. It's more because of the use of symbolism, metaphors and rhythmic brilliance. Same reason I like reggae and dancehall. Overall there is more raw passion bringing it all together. Lots of music outside the genre completely misses this mark in my opinion so they sound more boring to me.

If I listened to it because I take it literally, I would be wearing lots of jewelry and busting a cap in everyone's ass. I would presume a lot of people are like me.

Christian stories may have been romanized over time but the core values of traditional Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy are red pill as fuck.

I doubt most of them take that Nation of Islam folklore seriously if really pushed on it. Just as I don't think many Christians literally believe the world is 6,000 years old or that Noah's arc could get all the world's species crammed into one boat...at least if pressed to really think about it.

The music of these rappers is mostly consumed by whites, their record companies and distributors are owned by whites and they have no problem touring around Europe so I don't think any of that "white man is the devil" stuff is taken seriously at all.

The list, per the OP, was compiled in 2000, which is why newer artists wouldn't be on the list. Your theory would still hold for many ghettos today.

I don't have any favorite rappers, but I'd like to point out that just because they believe crazy shit shouldn't influence how you feel about their music unless that's what their music is about.

Tom Cruise is absolutely insane, but I like him as an actor.

I just generally don't pay to see his movies.

I'm presenting actual evidence that some of the most respected and influental members of the most relevant culture and genre of music today subscribe to a hateful and esoteric religion and the response is essentially that they were doing it for attention.

Go on the street and ask 1000 people if they're surprised that Busta Rhymes is a five percenter and has always been a five percenter and how many people do you think could answer this question. How many of you could have defined the term before this topic? Sounds like an ineffective meme if you ask me. Sure maybe a few of those people would react to the phrase "Illuminati" but that is currently and explicitly pushed while this is merely referenced and has been since the formation of hip hop.

How are these actions contrary to being a five percenter

What evidence do you have that the urban youth is informed about this or that it is fashionable to be part of a hate group, or at least reference them in public.

It seems like all of the objections to this being an actual thing are based on things you are supposing about their motivations which is impossible to prove, while the evidence ive provided is at least that, evidence.

Jay z is admittedly not my first choice for an example, but jay electronica is an example that seems to fit completely.

WIA already covered this in some other thread I think. Like Kosko said, they grew up around the stuff and used some of the teachings in their rhymes. You know it's just merely inspired because they drop Christian stuff, even in the same exact songs.

Only a small select group of rappers are fully 5%. The rest are just regular Christian, Muslim, or nothing (Agnostic). Big L was probably one of the few atheist ones although it seems he may have been just angry with Jesus for the way his life was.

If you seriously think most rappers are some weird racist cult, you are seriously reaching. Your lover Kanye could be the biggest racist of all current rappers for all we know. He's one of the biggest race baiters for sure.

I think there's a decent chance Kanye is a five percenter but has simply never referenced it. I dont give a fuck because he makes the best music of all time. Still my argument here is supported by evidence while your refusal is supported by your feelings and guesses.
