HGH for life extension?

HGH for life extension?

This isn't a question about increasing athletic performance, so please spare me a lecture about the evils of HGH use for weight training (which I found when I searched the board), and the inevitable flames concerning steroids, testosterone, etc.

Peter Thiel (co-founder Paypal, early investor in Facebook, and all-around smart guy) says that he takes HGH for life extension (and eats Paleo, avoids sugar, drinks red wine, runs, etc.). Link here.

Are you aware of anyone who's doing this sort of thing and posting their results?

I assume that he's injecting it. Is it possible to get an effective dosage of HGH with sublingual administration?

HGH is expensive and I only know of it being injected like test. For what I have seen it does work, especially for injuries on joints. I am sure there is a down side to using it though.

Apparently you get it in kits that can run about 1600 each. My knowledge might be a bit dated, but from what I understand it's injected like insulin, not test.

I've heard you need about 4 kits to see serious results.

The downside is kind of negligible, you see size gains in the waist that body builders don't like because it reduces the V shape when posing. If you're not a body builder I doubt it's an issue. Like anything on the fringes of being illicit, I'd be very cautious about ensuring what I'm getting is human and not animal. D&P has some good stuff on this area of health so I'd check that out as well as MikeCF's posts here.

I don't think it's been linked to life "extension" but again, take this info with a big grain of salt. Good luck and it'd be awesome if you could post your findings in a little datasheet or something. PM me if I can help.

HGH is not to be toyed with.

Higher doses of >10IUs per diem actually make your organs grow and cause that famous bloated look in body builders (it's actually their intestines that have grown).

There are no long-term studies associated with continuous HGH use. HGH makes everything in your body grow, including maybe cancer. I'm very afraid of cancer and especially afraid of substances that can cause cancer to grow (the body's natural defense against cancer is to cause apoptosis in the cancerous cell; HGH may make this process more difficult). Thiel even says himself that he's banking on cancer being cured in the next 10 years in order to offset the major risk associated with using HGH. That's a pretty big assumption that I wouldn't risk my life on.

The common dosage to achieve just better recovery, endurance, muscle growth, and general well-being is 1-2 IUs per day. This stuff needs to be injected, and it takes a while for the effects to become palpable. The main HGH drugs are still under patent protection, which won't run out until the end of this decade. Therefore, you need to get an off-label prescription from likely a TRT doc, which means no insurance coverage.

MikeCF has done a much better job describing the pros and cons of HGH than I just did. I would refer to this article for any additional questions.
