I recommend The Fall (2006). Visually beautiful movie about a guy telling a story to a girl in a hospital while drugged up on pain killers.
I also recommend El Topo, but do not watch this with girls around because it's really weird.
A similar movie to El Topo (and made by the same director) is The Holy Mountain:

I really did not like that movie. I hate getting weird boners.
Did anybody watch "Men behind the Sun"?
"The film is a graphic depiction of the war atrocities committed by the Japanese at Unit 731, the secret biological weapons experimentation unit of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. The film details the various cruel medical experiments Unit 731 inflicted upon the Chinese and Soviet prisoners towards the end of the war."

Edit: I removed the image from the theater release poster. You can see it on the wiki page, but you've been warned.
"Because of its graphic content, the film has suffered mass controversy with censors all over the world. It was originally banned in Australia[7] and caused public outcry in Japan to such an extent that director Mous even received threats on his life."

There's a black and white film that is just experiment after experiment from Unit 731. I can't remember what it is called but it is fairly recent
just because he died from a heroin over dose, would rape audience members, cut himself with glass and smear his shit on his body!

Holy shit. You weren;t kidding. Just saw it last night and it is without a doubt the most disturbing thing I've seen in years.
Guys, forget about these horror films and Japanese gore shit. This doc right here will have your stomach in knots after one viewing.
Very relevant themes regarding the nature of women and the justice system as well.
Come and See.
A Soviet made WW2 movie.
Perhaps not quite as extreme as some of the choices here, but it is a good film that doesn't glamourise war at all.

Not a movie, and mildly NSFW. Is in three parts so best to watch on youtube, rather than embedded.

I watched it with the surround sound and movie snacks and I did jump up a few times but it's basically another cheesy 90's sci fi movie!! The director had to really slice it down to avoid a NC 17 rating according to imdb, now it would of been a nominee for the thread if he released an unrated extended version!!

Some of the scenes deleted from the original 130 minutes long rough cut are;
The infamous "bloody orgy" video was also longer. Parts which are still in the scene, like one of the crew members sticking his fingers deep into other one's eyes, and a female crew member sodomizing male crew member with iron pipe, were even more violent in original version of the scene. There were also lot more shots of Event Horizon crew naked and covered in blood having violent sex and raping and eating each other, more graphic version of the scene where man pulls his intestines out of his mouth, one crew member is held and stabbed in back of the head with spike and part of his mouth and teeth drops out, other crew member is crawling on floor while others are hitting his legs with steel bars smashing them to pieces as he screams and is crawling away leaving pieces of his legs behind, one girl has screws drilled into her teeth, other girl is held while her arm is broken with hunk of metal, one more girl has her breasts mauled and then ripped off by another crew member, some other parts of the scene were also cut. Reason why this scene disturbed test audience is because filmmakers, in order to make the scene look more realistic and therefore lot more violent, hired real life amputees for special effects scenes where Event Horizon crew members had their body parts damaged in many ways, and porn actors were hired to make the sex and rape scenes more graphic. According to producer Jeremy Bolt and director Paul W.S. Anderson, some audience members during screening of rough cut of the movie started fainting while watching this scene.

Fans of the horror genre will remember the movie Maniac. It inspired nationwide protests, due to the graphic advertisement photo of a beheaded woman.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF94Xn9yDUI
It was actually a good film in that it showed a serial killer as a depraved, sad individual (which is often closer to the truth). Many of the 70s slasher films were portraying these killers as superhuman monsters (Jason in Friday the 13th, Michael Myers in Halloween).
The film sent feminists into a meltdown. A similar thing happened to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer in that many people wanted to see it banned. I guess people prefer fictional accounts of evil, rather than honest portrayals into the lives of the deranged.
