Killing that urge of smoking

I did a teeth x ray last week ,and after inspection my dentist informed me that my gum is getting worse with smoking . As a result , my front teeth are all moving and will fall apart . For that matter , I'm on a 2 week program which requires I take medications that cannot be mixed with alcohol consumption and cigarettes . Later , they're supposed to clean my gum from the inside so my teeth remain stable.

I've been a chain smoker for almost 6 years .

This is my second day without smoking ; I barely slept yesterday .

My throat is itchy , my brain cannot stop thinking about lighting one .

I'm going out later for a run ,but I can't think of any substitute to my urge ,and it's making me very anxious .

Anyone been here before ?

I quit cold turkey just over a year ago. Ask any member I met on here how bad my habit was. Never felt better! The Master Cleanse fast tracked the nicotine out of my system so at least the physical addiction was gone. After that it is the psychological part that is the bitch. You gotta stay strong and push through.

Ask your dentist first before starting. My teeth get sensitive from drinking very warm/hot fluid all day for 10 days. You may need to drink it room temp which is fine, just shake it up to get the cayenne pepper mixed even. If you have any question let me know.

OP that's normal, you have to wait for your body and brain to drift back to normal.
The discomfort during this period is the price you have to pay for being cigarette-free, hold on buddy [Image: smile.gif]

Thanx to all of you . However , I'm wondering what would be the alternatives that would prevent me from feeling that discomfort besides working out .

Ive been there man and its tough, I found that when I had a bad craving such as after a meal, brushing my teeth and drinking a large glass of ice water helped a lot. Also, going for short walks and just getting out of the house for a breath of fresh air helped too.Try to have gum and mints handy but dont over do it on the sweets, get some veggies or fruit to snack on instead. I smoked for 20 years and quit six months ago using laser therapy, it cost a lot of money, about $300 but was worth every cent, heres a link to the laser place I went to, theres some decent info on the site which may be of help to you http://imaginelaserworks.com/

That deserves a plus one. You were able to quit smoking cold turkey and I can't even go 3 days without touching myself. You are a veteran after all so I shouldn't be surprised [Image: american.gif]

That x-ray scan should be a good piece of motivation for you to quit.

Like many others here I also used to smoke like a chimney,I was convinced that smoking was a habit that would stick with me until death. Couldn't see myself giving it up.

But almost two years ago I quit smoking, cold turkey.
There is really no other way. You have to stick with your decision and deal with all the demons along the way. Nobody says it's easy, but it's definitely possible.

Don't replace a habit like smoking with another unecessary habit like chewing cucumbers or whatever.

However, these days I hate cigarettes. Can't believe that I used smoke that shit.
Life is truly much better without them.

Good luck.

Just start vaping instead of smoking.

I used the nicotine lozenges pretty effectively. They dont provide that 'hit' from smoking but they do prevent and curb the craving to smoke. Eventually, I just start using them less and less until I dont use any nicotine products. I just pop one in my mouth and it lasts a surprisingly long time (several hours). You just let it sit 'parked' in your gums. Move it around on occasion.

Also, the fact that it is colder than shit right now is a great deterrent from going outside and smoking.

Replacing a bad habit with a better one. Vaping is safer than smoking. All the shitty taste and smell of tobacco goes away, too.

you could switch to swedish snus ( not to be confused with American dip). A quick google search and you will find forums with former smokers who now use snus exclusively. Quitting would be the healthiest option though.

There's no scientific evidence of this.

Fuck that shit.

Google search that again and look how the mouth and teeths of a snuffer looks like.

Plus it tastes and smells like shit.

I Appreciate the feedback from former smokers.

All I can say it's not easy at all , I went to the gym yesterday and felt better at least for the night .

I need to workout intensively at least 3 times a week to alter my brain's dependency on tobacco .

I'm gonna switch my addiction from cigarettes to pussy addiction ,that's what I have in mind.

Is this a joke? Or have you never tried smoking either or both?

We don't need science to say tobacco is bad for us...we've known it for hundreds of years.

I've smoked cigarettes. They're terrible for you.

I've smoked e-cigarettes. They're not. They may not be great for you, but they aren't cigarettes.

I'm not condoning ecigarettes, in fact for a chain smoker it may not be a great idea, but if it's the one thing that helps him quit, it's a good idea. Sheesh.

I used to smoke 3 packages (60 cigarettes) a day and I quit by switching to vaping. Vaping literally saved my life and my athletic performance is through the roof now, and I still vape.

I switched to e-cigarettes, and no longer cough up weird shit and can breath. Enough evidence for me.

I quit cigarettes at the beginning of this year; I came down with a nasty cold as soon as I gave them up. I’m just now recovering. So I know what you’re going through. I hate to say it, but I think it’s just going to take strength.

Good luck. You should definitely check out that Allen Carr book too.

Not a joke. I smoked a pack a day for three years and briefly flirted with e-cigs.

Of course they aren't cigarettes, but again there is absolutely no scientific evidence that suggests that they're harmless or even less harmful. We haven't had enough time or studies to know either way.

I'm trying to quite right now since I've some flu/cold, sheaving the nicotine bubble gums as a temporary solution for abstinence. Did it before and stayed away from the cigarettes for two weeks until I was stupid enough to start again. Started with 12 bubblegum a day and reduced it to only three a day. Then I thought okay I can have three gums and one smoke a day. Didn't go very well.

Yesterday I did pretty good, only about five cigarettes and all of them in the evening however today I don't want to have a single one. Will chew the gums all night if I need to. Many people speak about how bad it is to smoke but I think it's more important to think about the good things about not smoking.

Cigarettes addiction makes us weak men, we are controlled my a substance and our happiness is depending on it. I want to have control of my own life, I just can't go on smoking anymore. This sticker represent a cigarette addiction pretty good: [Image: whip.gif]
"go smoke" "go smoke" "go smoke"

And we, as the slaves we are follows blindly, goes and lights it, people around us have to put up with the smell we pollute the air with everywhere we go.

In a girls eye it's probably more attractive with a guy standing eating an apple than smoking a cigarette.
