Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The 7th Star Wars movie is coming out next year I believe. The first trailer will be up today later on. Some positives are, its not directed by George Lucas who doesn't take professional criticism well but by J.J Abrams. This is the guy who directed the recent Star Trek movies and Fringe (a great show that only ran 5 seasons). Hopefully with a bigger budget he will use miniatures rather than green screens. I think George Lucas might be sick with some sort of throat cancer or massive goiter. You don't retire from your company that quickly unless something terrible is happening to you.

The red light saber looks impractical, but it does look a lot better than episode 1-3 so far. Don't recognize any of the actors shown so far.

This will be great because of JJ Abrams. JJ and Bryan Singer are the top scifi directors of the decade I think. They're the only ones who can make a dorky and cheesy story really cool and relative to our emotional perspectives.

Looks promising.

That light saber. The dual light saber I could understand, but this. When you are dealing with something as iconic as Star Wars, you don't just change stuff. I might work, but they really have to sell that one to me. Imagine if they had altered the x-wing. However the rest of the art direction looks very promising.

I like J.J. Abrams but A) the trailer looks lame, basically doesn't show anything, and B) I'm still disappointed they didn't choose to film the series after the excellent Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.

I have zero interest in any of these "Star Wars" flicks.

Based on Abram's abortion/attempted reboot of the "Star Trek" franchise, I can see these films being PC bilge with massive plot holes that are either ignored or band-aided over with special effects, just like in the "Star Trek" reboot.

The masses will go see them and the films will generate metric tons of revenue. But these flicks will be most likely be worse/much worse than the 3 prequels, where at least there was the anticipation of watching Darth Vader be created to captivate imagination. Are these sequels going to follow the canon storyline that leads to the final destruction of the Sith? I highly doubt it.

Pass.

I'm guessing it's meant to function like a hilt on a sword. A defensive tool, not an offensive one. I'm not a fan either though, sometimes I think they change things just so they can pretend they had an impact.

I'll definitely be watching it when it's released, but I'm keeping my expectations low. I've only seen 3-6, but I've heard some awful things about 1-2. 3 was pretty lame for the most part too.

Fisher, Ford, and Hamill are all coming back for it. Should be interesting. Hamill was an awful actor, I wonder if he has taken classes in the past 40 years.

This chick is in it too. Guarantee she'll be playing an alien.

I don't know too much about Star Wars but I'm fucking confused, is that guy with the red light saber supposed to be Darth Vader or is he supposed to be dead already in this movie.

I'll watch this but it doesn't look very good at all. The voiceover was C-grade video game narrative and what's with the goofy black dude popping into the first frame? It's almost like a scene out of Spaceballs.

Yeah that light saber looks utterly retarded.

How much do you want to bet that Mickey Mouse will make some kind of appearance in the movie!? From what I gathered, the movie will be about a new Sith lord rising after the death of Palpatine & Vader, although I have zero knowledge or interest in the cannon.

From the voiceover and lightsaber, it looks like Darth Maul is back.

Also... black stormtroopers? Er, what?

PASS.

To the posters complaining about the impracticality and non-realism of the red double-light saber...you do realize light sabers are not real, right?

THIS, absolutely, the Thrawn Trilogy was amazing and it ties in directly after return of the Jedi.

Then again there was a story gap between 123 and 456.

I need a solid trailer to see if this is going to be good or not.

The trailer looked almost as if it would be a star wars horror movie.

I hope the new star wars will be serious and rather dark. I hope we dont ger a new Jar jar binks.

I'm so sick of American movie series dragging on longer after previous releases already ruined the storyline. Hollywood constantly does this. Look at Robocop. The first one is excellent and the second and third are garbage. They rightfully stopped making Robocop movies after that.

The only modern saving grace to long running movie series were the Batman movies with Christian Bale. For all the creative surplus and advanced technology, I haven't enjoyed any late movies like films from the 90's and 00's.

It's Star Wars, so when it comes out I will buy a ticket, go sit in a cinema and eat popcorn, getting a rush when the John Williams score kicks in. But I'm not expecting too much. It'll be a fun two hours and that will be that.

It is a teaser not a trailer. It is not suppose to show much of anything, some of the footage might not be included in the final movie.

I light saber could just cut right through at the base of the grib, I can't see how the guard have a practical. The vikings had it right the first time around, guards just get in the way of fighting.

You do realize that sci-fi/fantasy movies only work when they are rooted in a reality we can understand.

One thing that's hopeful is Lawrence Kasdan doing the screenplay, though I didn't like the Ewoks.

What will suck about the movie, like most these days is you'll have some strong, feminist type of character that's tougher than nails who must be respected, even bowed down to by the male heroes. She will be portrayed as smarter, more clever, and usually right while the males are just there to do the heavy lifting. She of course will spend much of her time on screen killing other men.

I wish some of the expanded universe was still considered canon, like the Revan story. I movie about Revan would be so dope.

I don't care how highly (or over-) rated JJ Abrams is, Hollywood giving its two most legendary sci-fi franchises to the same guy is a head-scratcher.
