I read in the news today that Japan will continue having nuclear/radio-active problems for at least another 9 months or so.
This means I will have to postpone my nihon trip and am now thinking of South Korea as a good alternative.
I searched the forum and there seems to be some info on South Korea, Seoul especially, but not all that much.
Seoul seems a logical destination but can anyone recommend another city/cities that would be worth hitting up as well, mainly from a girl perspective/nightlife but if they have nice culture n everything that would be a good bonus.
Are there any student towns/cities, like Cordoba in Argentina for instance? Are there any places where a tall, white guy would get a better reception??
cheers!

Seoul is a cool city. Gangnam is good for day game.
Problem that you have there is that nightlife kinda sucks and the local chicks always seem to be up to their necks in either their study or work.
I had good success with girls down south in Busan (where I picked up my flag) and Jeju.

Are you going to Soth Korea to work? If not, I would suggest that you go somewhere else. While its a good trait to be able to find the positives in all countries, I think that S. Korea really challenges a traveler in this regard.
Yeah, its good to experience, but in my opinion, there isn't enough here to justify a non work related visit beyond two weeks. Really, I would only visit to experience some good Korean food and to put the country on your travel map. But is that worth the flight cost?
Taiwan is probably your second best bet in North Asia (Non-irradiated Japan being the first). Third would be Hong-Kong. If you have some cash, then you might even enjoy Hong-Kong better than Taiwan. However, in Taiwan you will find more than just city life if you are looking for that.

thanks for the replies guys
@ Hydrogonian: could you pls expand a bit - when you say "there isn't enough" in S Korea, are you referring to girls & nightlife, or culture or everything combined?
I've been to Hong Kong and thought it was ok, not somewhere I'm in a rush to get back to. I've been to Japan before (just Tokyo) and absolutely loved it
I'm planning a non work related holiday of 10 to 14 days; now Japan seems too uncertain/risky i though Korea would be a good replacement

If your going for 10-14 days, then anyplace is good. Even S. Korea can be interesting for 10-14 days. However, its a conservative country. Like, really conservative. I wouldn't go for the women if you aren't there long term. Although, you can pull ONS if you go to the right type of place. Its just that there are better options in the region.
If you are going to get laid, then fly into somewhere smaller than Seoul, like Busan or Daegu, and just hit whatever nightlife is there hard. Seoul is too spread out and large to be able to get a handle on and do any damage in 14 days. If you just want to see the city, then that's something else.
If I had your time-frame and wanted to stay in North Asia, then I would go to Taiwan without a doubt. However, in reality, I wouldn't consider North Asia unless Japan were 'open for business'.
Why not go to SE Asia? If you want girls and nightlife, then Bangkok is the obvious choice in Asia. If you want to experience Korea, do that. If you want warm weather and good looking girls in short skirts AND want to stay in North Asia, then go to Taiwan.

Zanetti, the topic of South Korea has come up before. If you really want a low down on what South Korea is really like, examine the next two posts I am about to link you to. Read them both, focus on the first one. They are long, but say everything you need to hear.
Japan vs. South Korea
How black guys do in South Korea
This second post is not tailored to you, but its details will still give you some useful insight into how South Korean culture operates, info that could still help you as a white guy.
While you're at it, read that whole other thread as well. Plenty of other useful tidbits.

@ Athlone: haha great read! that gorbachev has some interesting insights
he makes china sound like a complete free-for-all
i see where you guys are coming from re S Korea - the thing is that i've already been to thailand and although the place is a guaranteed lay i'm normally more interested in seeing new places
@ hydrogonian: you mentioned taiwan a couple of times - how would you compare taiwan vs japan in terms of girls' attractiveness, ease of getting laid, interesting other stuff to do?
cheers
