I'm just curious. In light of the recent elections, did you have a lot of people spouting off political rants and posting political links in your Facebook feed? Who is more vocal? Left leaning friends or Right leaning friends?

I had 2 friends that I had to block during the '12 elections, one conservative and one lib, because they were posting partisan garbage 5-10 times a day, literally! I've noticed more recently that my leftist friends are much more vocal, whiney, and in-your-face with sharing their politics on Facebook. Maybe it's because they got hammered in this election, maybe they're just that much more open or arrogant about their beliefs, maybe leftists are more active in social media. I'm guessing the greater share of my fb friends are actually right-leaning, so I know it must be something.

Overwhelmingly liberal for me. Even my super religious friends post tons if liberal shit. And then there's me, blasting a bunch of libertarian stuff. I usually try and keep it funny by sharing humorous posts about the inefficiency of government from libertarian pages I follow though.

I lived in the Bay Area, but it's still amazing how easily manipulated people are.

My feed is definitely way more leftist. I always thought liberals are way more vocal on facebook because they think "only bad people" would not believe the things they believe, so they are oblivious to the fact that some friends may find their views abhorrent. If I posted even one political article I'm pretty sure I would be deleted by about 25 people immediately. They are much more intolerant of those who disagree with them, because they are not constantly bombarded by opposing views in all areas of life the way conservatives are. If someone wants to come into contact with conservative views, they for the most part have to actively seek them out, by going to conservative websites, turning on talk radio, watching specific news channels etc. The only area a liberal can accidentally find themselves in enemy territory is by wandering into a comments thread on a hot news article. I relish the horror they experience when exposed to the raw unfiltered views outside their PC media bubble force field.

You can't avoid coming into contact with liberal viewpoints even if you want to. If I login to Yahoo to check my email, there are at least 10 leftist articles on the front page. If I turn on the TV to watch any modern show I will be subjected to cultural marxism. Same thing If I go to the movies. If someone shows up to any high school or college class(with the exception of the one or two memorable token conservative teachers we've all had at one point) they will be lectured with leftist ideology. Even video games are being taken over. Their really is no escape except to pop in a dvd of some old 1970's show like Battlestar Galactica or Magnum PI(something I do quite often)

All of this leads to one building up a emotional resistance against hearing opinions you don't like. Liberals generally(in my experience) have much less of this and are more easily outraged and feel hurt by those who disagree with them.

Having said all that, I have mostly hipster/ yuppie white liberal friends, but I will admit that at the times when I have gone on other pages, groups etc and seen other feeds, I do often see some conservatives who are constantly posting political crap and harping about things. A couple of the conservative friends I do have are actually pretty vocal, and while I find it annoying and presumptuous to jam up everyone's feed with politics I kind of admire them in a way for not giving a shit. I personally don't post political stuff on my facebook because I don't want to be that guy, and that's not what I use the site for.

I don't mind politics on social media as long as it's somewhat intelligent, or at least not preemptively accusative...but I believe anyone who posts political statements should expect and welcome dissenting comments so long as they're civil. Liberals. It's not even close. 95% of millenials in my area lean to the left, most to the far left. I'm a moderate, and sometimes it is pretty painful to read. However, most of the shit they post is meaningless gay-rights and equality stuff. Right now, I haven't directly experienced a friend losing a job because of political shit they've posted on facebook, but I'm guessing it's just around the corner. That's the type of shit that makes my blood boil--after almost 240 years, we've exchanged the King of England for our far more draconian corporate masters. And it goes both ways--even pajama boy shouldn't have to fear losing his livelihood because of some mindless liberal drivel he posts online--and THAT's saying something. Guess we all have to make some sacrifices in the name of democracy and civilization...

I don't have Facebook anymore, but one of the reasons I got rid of it was the constant barrage of liberal/left posting. Just never-ending, shrill, and unopposed. It's an interesting phenomenon given that it doesn't reflect the overall reality of people's opinions as the recent US elections showed. The liberals just don't shut up and the average conservative or libertarian learns to keep quiet or quits the medium like myself.

This might be biased due to me coming from a liberal background and thus having mostly liberal family and acquaintances (though not friends!), but liberals/leftists are extremely aggressive in cramming down their agendas down your throat. Endless posting, much more outrage, quicker to suggest severe punishments for opponents.

To be fair, it used to be the opposite before the internet era, but now it's reversed. But to be even more fair, that part was largely due to the country just having suffered a devastating war more than because of the inherent ideology.

And it's not limited just to their own Facebook timelines. I've had some privately contact me to express concern about my innocent comments on some news articles, in a way scarily similar to how a granny at the end of 19th century might ask you if you're being tempted by the Devil and if she could educate you to lead you back into the light.

This is timely. I just found a solution to this problem. I have a FB friend who I don't actually want to cut out, but he spams dozens of crazy liberal meme pictures daily saying things like "Republicans support laws that would jail a woman if she has a miscarriage". It has been a growing psychic burden to be bombarded by insane blue pill and Frankfort school memes.

Just before coming to RVF just now, I googled how to hide posts from someone you don't want to unfriend, and I found you can set them to Acquaintance, and their posts will rarely show up. I just had the best time on Facebook in a good year. Saw a five generation picture of my Grandma, Mom, Sister, Niece, and Grandniece, and saw a link to an article which really benefitted me. It would have been hard to find these posts with the barrage of posts this one guy puts out. It's family things like this, and connections to old friends and people from my home town that make me want to stay on FB. I was ready to toss it all out, but now this acquaintance feature makes things a lot better.

those with high educational achievement - elite college/professional school - either spam liberal rants or full libertarian, nothing in between.

those with low educational achievement - JC, some college, local college as an adult, or high school only - spam conservative talking points.

those who are young, female, and childless spam feminist shit regardless of schooling.

I got rid of the worst of them last year after the massive amount of sour grapes that followed the last Australian federal election. Now I only have a couple of people who post political stuff. Most of my friends are either in their 30s (so tons of inane posts and photos of their kids) or Asian (so tons of duck faces and plates of food). I have a few Taiwanese friends who post tons of political stuff in Chinese, but I don't understand it.

Or at least it was. Now with the 'unfollow' option, my feed has become almost 100% neutral. So about 30% of my fb friends are unfollowed.
