They're a different kind of orbiter, but still there nonetheless. They aren't the ones "liking" absolutely every picture or status update.
Of course there are times when a "Happy Birthday" is just that, but more often than not, especially if the woman is above a 5, it's probably orbiting (assuming it's not a male family member wishing her happy birthday or gay friend). I'd be willing to wager that a woman below a 5 with an equal amount of male facebook friends compared to a woman above a 5 gets significantly less "Happy Birthdays" from men.
The Birthday orbiter uses variants of the standard "Happy Birthday" except usually followed by "have a good one!" or "enjoy it!". They feign they really wish her the best birthday ever to make the message stand out just a bit.
This is done hoping the girl takes notice of it and possibly sends them a message. If she likes it or comments - then it's a green light for them to send her a private message. Some of them probably were traditional orbiters, but they're usually a little more advanced than that. I've seen married guys who will enter orbit on a woman's birthday for example. If anyone looks into it, then that is seen as overreacting, so essentially it has its own safety net.
"Happy Birthday" might be most overused indirect opener in the history of mankind.
