Scotty’s own mother, Jillian Tait, and her boyfriend Gary Fellenbaum stand accused in Scotty’s murder inside the West Caln Township trailer home the couple shared with Fellenbaum’s estranged wife, Amber Fellenbaum.

“Over a three-day period… he was systematically tortured and beaten to death,” said Hogan. “He was punched in the face and in the stomach, he was scourged with a homemade whip, he was lashed with a metal rod, he was tied to a chair and beaten, he was tied upside down by his feet and beaten, his head was smashed through a wall and at the end of that he had bruises on top of bruises all over his body.”

Police only learned of the beatings after Amber Fellenbaum called 911 on Tuesday night to report an unresponsive child in the Hope Lane home, according to investigators.



It was too late for Scotty and he died before arriving at the hospital, according to investigators.

“When his body went into the emergency room our ER nurses — who see a lot of terrible things — when they saw his body, they wept,” said Hogan.

Hogan and investigators showed off photos of some of the weapons they allege Fellenbaum, 23, used on Scotty while Tait, 31, admittedly sometimes watched and laughed. Included in the items were a makeshift whip, a curtain rod, an aluminum strip and photos of holes in the wall where Fellenbaum slammed Scotty and his 6-year-old brother’s heads into the wall.

Police alleged that Fellenbaum met Tait at a local Wal-Mart where they worked together. Tait and her two sons — Scotty and a 6-year-old — moved in with Fellenbaum in mid-October and the abuse began shortly thereafter, said investigators.



On the night that Scotty died, Tait told police that she and Fellenbaum left Scotty on the mattress so he could sleep after they put the unresponsive child in a shower for more than 30 minutes. They then went out to pick up pizza for dinner. When they returned, Tait said Scotty remained unresponsive, according to a police criminal complaint.

At that time, Tait told police that she and Fellenbaum engaged in sexual activity then she took a nap, according to investigators.

After waking up around 7:30 p.m., Tait said she found Scotty not breathing so she screamed for someone to call 911. Amber Fellenbaum then called 911 and medics arrived.

On Thursday, Hogan announced a total of 16 charges against Gary Fellenbaum including first- and third-degree murder charges, homicide, endangering the welfare of a child, assault and reckless endangerment. Tait faces 15 charges, including the most serious murder charges, according to court records.

A judge denied bail to both Fellenbaum and Tait at a Wednesday arraignment.

Fellenbaum expressed remorse that "his physical assaults caused another's death," according to the criminal complaint.

Attorneys for both murder suspects didn't immediately comment on the case.

Amber Fellenbaum was charged with child endangerment and sent to county jail unable to post $500,000 bail. She told investigators that she first became aware of the alleged abuse about two weeks ago when she saw Fellenbaum spank Scotty after the boy didn’t respond to Fellenbaum. She also said she saw Fellenbaum and Tait beat the boy with a green frying pan on another occasion and on Sunday saw Fellenbaum tape Scotty to a chair and severely pummel the boy’s face and stomach.

Tait’s 6-year-old as well as the Fellenbaums' 11-month-old daughters were cared for by county services.

The couple allowed Scotty's brother to hit him as well, according to the affidavit. But the older boy also showed signs of abuse, authorities said.

"It is going to take us years to put him back together again physically and mentally," Hogan said.

Hogan said that the older boy was in school and investigators would look into how the school teachers and officials missed alleged abuse against that boy.

The highest rate of child abuse is by live-in boyfriends of single mothers. NBC News admits this, in this article:

Here are some of the stats they cite:

* "Children living in households with unrelated adults are nearly 50 times as likely to die of inflicted injuries as children living with two biological parents, according to a study of Missouri data published in the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2005."

* "Children living in stepfamilies or with single parents are at higher risk of physical or sexual assault than children living with two biological or adoptive parents, according to several studies co-authored by David Finkelhor, director of the University of New Hampshire's Crimes Against Children Research Center."

Since this is pretty common knowledge, and since bloggers are usually one-up on stodgy old news sites, you'd think this info would get out. You'd be wrong.

One of the most circulated blog posts recently was "11 Things Single Mothers Don't Want to Hear." It even got a forum post.

One of the bullet points was “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t see the crystal ball in your hands. Please, tell me more about my children’s futures.”

But anyone with half a brain would know that today we really do have a form of "crystal balls" with the massive amount of statistics we can reference on the Web.

Women will look at statistics to figure out where to buy a house or which car to purchase, but not how to properly raise a child.* When you ask them for a bit of foresight on that, they claim you're requiring a "crystal ball."

It took 15 seconds for me to find that NBC story. It takes longer to research how to buy a new Toyota. What does that say?

Anyway, sad story, but it's good someone posted it here because it brings up important issues.

I'd want to cut this guy's guts open and make him eat his own intestines. I have quoted this to people before and they refuse to believe it. Go on any website, tinder or pull a girl on a night out and most likely she will invite you round sometime with the kids in the same house.

My nephew and niece live under the same roof as their mothers live-in BF (now husband) and he has thrown his kids around before but not my niece or nephew. primarily because he knows me and my brother are way bigger than him and he knows what shit will come his way if he did.

When the biological father is thrown out the chances of that child being hurt sky rockets. And yet there is an epidemic of single mothers.

One of the things he told us was that when male chimpanzees come in and raid another group of chimps and drive off the other males, they kill all the young offspring in the care of the females.

This does two things: (1) brings the female chimps who were nursing back into estrus, and (2) gives a stronger shot for their own offspring to survive in the competition for food.

Everytime I see one of these "boyfriend kills other man's kid" stories (and they are common), I think of that.

It's another reminder of how America's whoring, easy-divorce, glorification of the single-mother culture has harmed children as much (if not more) than it has harmed both adult men and women.

When you add to this biological element the external stresses of living in America (work pressures, bill pressures, inadequate services, etc), the strain becomes too much to bear for some people.

there was a similar story here in east TN a while ago. Mother with life in bf and they tortured the kid, he eventually died. They are sad, but also a great reinforcement of the importance of family.

A rational or logical acting person might have just killed the kid if it was a burden, but to take the time to torture a 3 year old. Like the chimp or invading male lions example...they don't tie up the young and torture them with homemade whips and cigarette burns, they kill them to make way for their own. There is a genetic logic to it. This has none except self indulgence on the part of the abusers and it makes me wonder if the motivations for people to behave worse than animals is.

This story makes me sick to my stomach. I have seen some of these stories in the news lately, one recently in NY. Without the death penalty, these two should be sterilized and lobotomized, but its doubtful you could make them even more retarded than they already are. Fair point, except that in false rape cases there's rarely any actual evidence. Just hearsay and he-said-she-said that's putting men behind bars. In this instance you've got a body, you've got the weapons used, and you've got both suspects with a history of beating that kid. Nobody said they shouldn't get a trial, just that they get the execution after they get found guilty.
