This stuff blows my mind.

A memory card about the size of my pinky nail. I just bought one for 17$ on aliexpress. It'll take a month to get here, but who cares.

I remember buying a 1gb SD card about eight or nine years ago and thinking how awesome that was.

I remember my first digital camera - an old SONY Mavica FD97. Take a photo and wait about five seconds until it records it to the 3.5" floppy diskette inside. I could take about 30 pictures in ~VGA resolution.

This was real hot stuff for a high school kid circa 2001. Remember that before digital cameras, there was no "LEMMIE SEE!!!" after snapping a shot. It was either too bad, wait a few days until my dad takes me to Walgreens to get the 35mm roll developed and printed or - if you were REALLY lucky - wait 5 minutes for a Poloroid to develop, by which time anything you were trying to capture has already moved on.

Chicks loved it, naturally, because of the ability to self-evaluate for approval.

I just bought a new LG Android phone online and I'm waiting for deliver. The specs on the LG site say the max capacity is a 32gb card. On a different site it said 64gb.

I'm wondering if I buy this 128gb card will it work. I've never maxed out a phone's memory capacity. Does putting a larger memory card than your phone specifies generally going to be a problem?

Sooner or later it'll be 1 TB on a SD, these are GREAT to have on a go pro or for a phone.

I remember having a few gigs on a thumb drive was a big thing.

Shit I even remember 1 GB Hard Drives. Now we have Solid State Drives which haul ass.

Speak easy.
It won't mess up your phone. It just won't read the rest of the card. And will format so only see the max
Or the card won't register in the phone at all.

Don't forget..the large data sizes and small physical size along with fast data can turn against us a security issues.
Back when I had 64mb thumb drives, you could steal half a countries info.

I often keep my micro sd cards and devices desperate.
I've heard of people smuggling data out by putting micro cards under tongues, behind ears etc.
Data can get stolen so easily these days

What could you possibly use that much space for?

If you gave me that card, I'd still have 126 GB left after a year of use.

I found several old 8, 16 and 32 MEGABYTE compact flash cards from my first digital cameras. Ah the days of 1.2 megapixels.

FYI, CF cards speak the IDE interface natively, so I've used the bigger ones (with a CF to IDE adapter) to build embedded DOS computers that do various "dumb" tasks. I have a prototype sitting at a bar right now that plays one of my stations 24/7 for them. When it stops for whatever reason (network connection) they just hit the reset button. Reboots instantly and starts playing again. Was better than dropping $150 on a Barix exstreamer box.

Multimedia is what usually does it. Downloading music, making videos, lots of high res photos. Eats up space quick. I had one app that took up pretty much half my card. It's called Pocket, when you find a webpage you find interesting but don't have time to read it at that moment, it will save the page offline so you can read them even if you don't have data or wife. It uses up a lot of space after awhile though.

When getting a memory card which supposedly has a huge capacity, make sure to check it with a program called "h2testw" to make sure the capacity they claim to give you is the real capacity of the card.

There are a lot of vendors out there who take, say, a 16GB card and hack it to look like a 64GB or 128GB card, and you won't know it's a counterfeit until h2testw tries to write 128 gigs of data on the drive and fails after writing only 16GB or whatever the real capacity is.

I still remember looking around for computer parts as a kid, and the largest hard drive you could buy at the time was 300GB.
Crazy stuff. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Any phone that take SDIO 2.0 mircosd cards (which is anything bigger than 4GB) can take a card bigger than its rated spec. I have about 3 64GB and one 128 GB sandisk and it works flawlessly on my note 2. Conincidently when i comes to phones that is my sidejob. Im the guy in the back who fixes them in store.

Probably won't work. Better for you: imagine the quantity of data you would lose (or make available to others) if you would lose your phone!

To put things in perspective:

From 1977, 300 MB for under $20,000!!

I remember having to go to the library to look things up with card catalogues, the multi-volume Guide to Periodical Literature. Not to mention the sheer volume of business information from around the world which was inaccessible.

That's right I had a cheap 32 GB card from ebay which was a cloned fake 2 GB card. To the OP please let us know if this card is a real one.

If you guys remember the big Alibaba IPO a few months or so ago, here's where I bought it:

http://m.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-128g...-card.html

The guy I bought it from had 4 pages of 5 star reviews. At the price I paid sure why not. I'm surprised American businesses can survive and charge for stuff like this when I can go direct to the manufacturer.

Pardon the revival of this thread, but I wanted to let everyone know I got the shipment today.

Sure enough, it is a 100% legit 128gb micro sd card. All of the space on it is accessible.

Even better, it has the Sandisk logo all over it.
