CapeTown vs Budapest

Hi,

I made the decision to bounce to either Capetown or BP for the New Year and stay for about a year.

I will have a 5k a month budget.

Has anyone ever been to CPT? If so, how are the women and how much for a nice pad on the Watefront?

I get the impression that RE is SA is way overpriced.

My preference is for mulatto chicks like the chick on Spartacus from CPT but I will date anyone that looks good.

I am also looking to bring home a wife.

I've been to Cape Town and it has the ugliest black woman I've seen. And I've been around Africa and South America so I have the comparison. Hotel/Appt. are relatively cheap, but the security situation sucks big time. On the other hand, it is a very fascinating city with a beautiful layout and great surroundings.

I would choose Budapest althought I've never been there. But it's EE, means nice girls -no blacks though [Image: sad.gif]- and good security.

If you like mulattos have you considered Latin America:
"Mulattoes represent a significant part of the population of various Latin American and Caribbean countries: Dominican Republic (73%) (all mixed race people), Brazil (49.6% mulattoes, mestizos/mamelucos and blacks), Belize (25%), Cuba (24.86%), Colombia (25%), Haiti (15-20%)."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulatto

Perhaps someone here could suggest which Latin American countries have the most attractive mulatto chicks?

Won't get you three days in CT. Forget about the waterfront, it's a tourist trap. Look for small bnb's in the surrounding areas.

What time of year? It's summer in SA now and weather is awesome right now.

As for the chicks, forget about the blacks, they are in a different social caste to whites, not wife material, not even worth fucking. The only black chicks I would consider are the ones that grew up in the privilaged new South Africa and went to white schools.

As for white chicks, mostly stuck up, conservative, cliquey...

Go to CT for the scenery, wine farms, mountains etc...

5000 USD per month wont last me three days in Cape? Really

I am having a hard time getting a read on CT.

On one hand someone said It is a location for the top 5 prettiest people in a city and on the other I read that the girls there are ugly and unapproachable,.

Also, the rent seems outrageous. DO people really have money in SA---the place is deconstructing itself.

Oh fuck sorry I'm thinking in Rands...fuck me 5k DOLLARS you'll be balling...even in CT.

A note on the white women in CT, they are hot, and look after themselves by doing tri athlons, trail running, cycling etc...they come from privilaged spoilt backgrounds and are surrounded by men with no game...think of the princesses that result from that.

As a tourist you will have a better chance than locals as they can rationlise the bang. Us locals have to jump through hoops with these chicks.

There are also lots of international tourists in CT for the banging.

Rent is affordable if you coming with dollars, you can stay in Chapman's Peak hotel, or a luxury hotel in Hout Bay for peanuts if you do the currency conversions.

It is confusing. There are a lot of good looking women, but the nature of the country means you will often not see them "on the street", as the public environment is often unsafe, unclean, or both. So the middle classes and above spend a lot of time in privately controlled and owned environments where the law gives the owners the right to refuse anyone admission. They will generally eject any troublemakers, or refuse them entrance in the first place, because if they don't people with money will simply go elsewhere where the owners do, and their property value and income will fall. Cape Town is the city that you are probably most likely to see the middle classes "on the street", but even there lot's of people stick to private areas like malls. The Waterfront is a large area near the CBD that is privately owned (by a state pension fund mostly) that is maybe a bit more interesting than a mall. Lot's of tourists though. Canal Walk/Century City is another area a bit to the North of the CBD that is massive and has lot's of people around.

Also take note that you will really need a car. Again, Cape Town is the city that a middle class person is most likely to use public transport, but if you stay there for any length of tie you will need a car, or be prepared to spend more than you would have on a car on taxi charges. With a budget of US$5,000 you will be able to afford a car.

Yes, there are plenty of people with money. It's true that the majority of the population is poor, but the rich and middle class may as well be living in a different country to them. This upsets some of the more cloistered Western tourists who's life experience doesn't really equip them to process poverty, especially in South Africa with it's racial issues. I doubt this is you, since the RVF forum attracts more worldly people, but if poverty and income differences unduly upset you, SA is not the country to visit. One minute you can be in Camps Bay, which may as well be Beverly Hills, and a 20 minute ride to the airport takes you passed slums that make a favela look upscale.

Rent can be expensive in Cape Town. The very nicest areas like Camps Bay and Clifton have rental rates per sq metre that are not that different to Manhattan. It's crazy. But there are other much cheaper areas. If staying for the long term check out http://www.privateproperty.co.za and Gumtree rather than AirBnB.

PS: Cape Town is very "cliquey", but if staying for a long tie you have to find your own groups/tribe to associate with. Hikers. hipsters, rockers. whatever. Just like anywhere really.

PS: Inside tip. It's Cape Town, and not Capetown. Don't ask me why. It's very unique. As far as I know it is pretty much the only British named X-town that is spelled using two words, both capitalised. I've been trying to find out why, to no avail.

I was in SA for the World Cup but never got down to Cape Town. I thought Sandton looked like Sonoma in Cali. I was with some mates from the Embassy and some white SA gals that worked for the UN in Kabul. When we were going from Sandton to Rosebud or Rosemead we were in open country and as we were getting off the freeway I saw like 4 or 5 blacks in rags with a look in their eyes looking that was the most uncomfortable look I have ever seen--a mixture of hunger and desperation.

I have seen a lot of stuff mate--Kabul, Baghdad during the dark days, and the Sudan--but I will never forget that look. It freaked me out.

I am not about race, but the thing that I found most interesting was that the one girl's sister said I was the first colored she had ever shared a meal with. I was like, WTF, we are in Africa.

That being said, the people there were really cool..laid back and always down for fun...almost like aussies.

A lot of SA guys worked security in Iraq so I visited one of my old mates in Bluefountin or something. He was polite but I got some strangelooks in the Pub.

One thing that did trip me out a bit was the fact the girls didnt hide the fact that I was with them. They introduced me to their circle rather enthusiastically. I thought they might try to keep me on the DL but these chicks took me right into the bar, the club, or their BBQs. Weird people.

Honestly, I want to find a banging colored wife..like a 9. DO you think in six months I can pull this off?

How much is bottle service in the Cape. That's what I judge standard of living by.

I also get the feel that a bunch of lazy people are living off their property.

Interesting comments.

Ja, SA as a whole is like an edgy version of California. Personally I don't get freaked out by poverty in general. I don't go to obviously dangerous areas, but otherwise am not paranoid about "safety and security". About the most serious altercation I can remember in recent years was with an obviously drunk "Coloured" guy at a traffic light begging for money who went off on me when I ignored him and started insulting a friend sitting next to me calling him a "ka****" (n-word, but worse). I'm a very chill person (probably too chill), so these sort of things don't really rile me up and I don't escalate. Problems arise when you magnify small issues for no good reason.

Surprised about the "first coloured I shared a meal with" comment. Must be a very cloistered girl. Not surprising that you were invited out to bars and "BBQ's". Most South Africans are very friendly. (Aside: Don't call them BBQ's. The local term is "Braai" and is as close to a religion here you can get without some sort of deity. Calling them BBQ's in SA is like going to the UK and calling a "Pub" a "Bar".)

"Coloured" wife:
Are you using the term "Coloured in the South African, rather than American context? If so then Cape Town and the Western Cape province is almost the only place to be. Are you African American? In my opinion African American's and South African Coloured's will find quite a lot of common ground and make a good match. African American, and American culture in general, is quite popular among the Coloured population in SA. Much more so than in the Black community, who politically tend to be more Marxist and anti-American, and consider America to be oppressing the world and so on. Not sure if 6 months is enough to find a wife. I can't imagine that it would be that difficult though, especially if you had a big difference in income/wealth. But I'd say that you try to find a girl of at least equal social and financial standing. Marrying a hot, but poor, girl from a significantly lower social group than yourself sounds like a recipe for disaster. Also, if you take her back to America you'd probably have to manage expectations so she's not expecting a Hollywood or Park Avenue lifestyle.

Bottle service not my scene so can't comment intelligently, but would guess that the top end places, in Camps Bay say, are probably not much less than an average New York club.

Living off property? Ha. Everyone and his dog thinks they can be residential property magnates. I think in reality very few people pull this off successfully. The average person just ends up with a little bit of equity (hopefully), a lot of risk in the mortgages in their name, and big headaches with tenants. I have relatives who have fairly big residential property portfolios and the bullshit they have to deal with is astronomical. Tenants not paying rent, damaging property, difficulty in legal (as opposed to strong arm) evictions etc. Basically not worth it as an asset class.

A superb and informative post. Thanks.

I am black and my mom is from FYR (Serbia).

My ideal woman is something like Leslie Ann Brandt but with +2s...perhaps a bit better actually as my girl now in the USA is slightly better looking than Brandt.

Are there Ethiopian's wondering about the Cape? I was hoping it would be like an African London where the best and brightest would find themselves. I have been to Kenya and Ethiopia but living there is a bit much. I fancy first world comforts.

DO you really think bottleservice goes for 1000 bucks and up. I was thinking 150 bucks Max.

I used to do bottleservice in Bucharest, Budapst, and Bangkok for 150 bucks and the cost of living is listed as about the same for these places as the Cape...although I recognize the income discrepancies in SA may skewer this number.

Thanks again.

Awesome to see South Africa is a point of discussion in RooshV Forum.

Cape Town is the place every South African wants to live, I was a student at UCT in the early 2000's and the lifestyle down there is amazing.

Everything is about outdoor life, kite surfing, hiking, wine tasting, concerts under table mountain, botanical gardens, white sand beaches, night life, cocktails etc etc...

Socially Johannesburg is better, much easier to expand multiple circles of friends...but CT has the out door life that is second to none.

If you're looking for Mulatto girls Budapest isn't really it. Although I saw the most Beautiful mixed girl I've ever seen in my life here, they arent all that common. I approached one at a club a few weeks ago and she told me she didn't like black guys since her father left haha.

Women in Budapest are quite receptive to black guys I always get told "I love the chocolate boys" or "I love N*ggas" haha. Its a nice place and if you put in the effort to learn the language it will take you far.

There are tons of SAFAs in London with long faces, they had to leave the country because of the economic situation. I would not recommend this as a place to move too.

Budapest and surrounding countries wins in a unfair fight.

Budapest I have been too, Cape Town I have not and no interest other than seeing animals in Krueger Park.

I don't understand how these two are your final choices, there are so much better places for girls. Perhaps you should consider looking at some other destinations.

Ja, there are a good number of girls who look like the actress you posted.

You got me curious about bottle service. Here is a popular place near the waterfront who advertise rates online for what looks, at least to me, like Vegas/American style bottle service. Haven't been there myself.

http://www.shimmybeachclub.com/CorpCosts2

Divide by 11 to get USD, so a bit less than $500 for 2 bottles and space for 8 people.

This is an expensive place, though. I'm sure a run of the mill club would be much cheaper.

Not sure about Ethiopians. There are lots of Somali's, but mostly men. Either the women don't travel, or they are at home or under Burka's. The Somali's don;t have an easy time in the country. They run small shops and so on and are often targeted by people resentful of them. It's not really like London. The more ambitious Africans would be in the UK, Europe or the US. It would be a pretty tough for an African immigrant to find professional employment in SA. Tough for anyone, really, unless they have specific skills. Best to come in with money already, or have some very clear ideas on how to generate income.

Have you thought of doing some sort of 6 to 12 month course that would get you admitted to a University or college campus? Would seem like a good way to meet lot's of locals.

Thank you for your response.

The venue you posted seems more like a yacht club than a traditional disco. I could swing $230 1x or 2x a month if the ROI was worth it. I could also be marking myself as a silly Yank and setting myself up for a mugging too[Image: smile.gif]

I get the impression that life/income/perspective in SA is radically different within the nation. It appears that Cape Town is a bit richer than I expected even though the traditional cost of living models place it roughly on par with Bucharest and Bangkok. I guess it's the average of a shanty and a swanky waterfront flat.

I sent a few emails to a grad program at UCT to inquire about visiting student status. It's a much more serious process than I thought--as in I can't just waltz in and be sitting in class the next day.

Are you in SA now?

Thanks again for your post.

UCT's Graduate School of Business (http://www.gsb.uct.ac.za/) do offer shorter courses. They are quite expensive and are targeted at corporate execs who's company will be paying the bills. Their campus, though, is actually IN the Waterfront precinct and is a very cool space. An old converted jail, actually. Students will lean "older and male". The main campus is also very nice, but more difficult to get to, and you're probably less likely to find shorter courses there. Maybe Summer School, but then fellow students will lean "older women finding themselves".

There are plenty of options between shanty and swanky. Some flats in the City Bowl (CBD and immediate surrounds. The "bowl" is formed by Table, and other, mountains) are somewhat affordable. Another place you may consider looking is to the suburbs in the North, especially the ones close to the coast (e.g. Blouberg). I don't really like the area that much personally, but you could do a lot worse. It's suburban and spread out, but still lot's of flats to rent. A car is even more essential than other areas. Cheaper than the City Bowl.

Yes, I am in SA, but not Cape Town right now. Know the city very well though.
